iPad and mini panel mounts

Hay Guys and Gals
So I need to find a panel mount for an iPad 2 and also a mini?
Anybody know where to find?
Have seen them in the pictures, just can't find the mount anywhere.
Thanks in advance
Just looking for one to put in the panel or screw to the front of the panel. #-o
Not with any other attachment.

Re: iPad and mini panel mounts

I'd be a bit careful and try a iPad mini with the Ram mount before you buy. I was going to get one for mine, but I read one other pilot review it and it slipped out of the mount in his plane and he got his dinged with a cracked face. I used an Aduro car mount off ebay (about $20). I cut off their goofy dash mount, drilled a hole in the ball tapped it and screwed a Ram ball into it. Now I have a universal mount, does both the mini and my regular iPad. I did need to use a couple of peel and stick rubber feet to give it a bit more friction for the mini.

Speaking of which, for me, the mini is über cool. You do need to get one of the mobile enabled models for the GPS function. Otherwise, you need a bluetooth module to give it GPS function (the Bad Elf will work through the 30 pin-lighting connector adaptor, but unless you already have one, get a bluetooth one). I was sitting in the back of the bus on Southwest airlines last night following the approach on my mini, perfect gps lock on with 5m error on Foreflight.

Re: iPad and mini panel mounts

Ram will have a new iPad mini specific mount out either later in December or in January--it's on their website. Before then, their 7" mount will work, but not as well as the specific mount--apparently it interferes with the on-off control.

In any event, I'm thinking of waiting till after Christmas, but an iPad mini is certainly in the cards for the near future.

I have a RAM mount for an Ipad2. It is nice for the back seat to see maps and stuff but it's too clunky and heavy in my opinion to become part of the airplane permanently. I used velcro right on the panel. Three strips was too strong. With two 8" strips you still have to rip the IPad off with a twist. --put the soft side on the IPad so you can still surf the net nekid.
If you have old equipment in the way, velcro won't work so well. I hope somebody comes out with something really nice and sleek and lightweight that lets the thing be virtually flush. There is a wall mount that will let you go horizontal or vertical that clips in, but I was afraid it wouldn't secure it tightly--plus it would still stick out another inch from the other radios, etc.

Re: iPad and mini panel mounts

What size memory is adaquate for the Ipad mini? 16,32, 64 GB?

What memory is large enough for Foreflight and/or other graphics?

16 is probably fine for most of us unless you have your 12,000 strong music collection and 320 videos loaded. I have a 32 with both foreflight and JeppFD, a small (probably miniscule compared to most) music library, a few other apps and have used well under half of the memory.
(19+ free out of 32GB.)
