Ipad iO7 vs IO6

Another primarily tech site that I frequent has some pretty smart folks, (or wise guys; not sure) who have recommended that one should run as fast as possible in the opposite direction from iO7. At the same time, Foreflight recommends waiting for the new ipad MINI scheduled for release in late November in order to get the 64 bit processor and some other goodies....like longer useful life.

What say the geek brain trust here. I know there are a lot of you.

Any feedback would be appreciated

Same here... don't have a compelling reason to upgrade so I am waiting it out on IOS 6.

IOS7 is real buggy. My ipad has issues since the upgrade. I would say wait awhile and let the bugs get worked out first.

I have an iPad 2 and made the huge mistake of updating to IOS7.

It slowed the iPad down considerably and the so called new features are pathetic.

The latest patch update, 7.0.3, seems to have brought some of the lost performance back, but I have to agree there is no compelling reason to upgrade from 6 to 7. Seems mostly a facelift to me, albeit I haven't spent much time trying to learn the changes cause I just don't care.

Re: Ipad iO7 vs IO6

I updated my Mini to 7 within a short time after it came out, not knowing yet that WingX (which I do not use) was advising against it. What I've seen is that many of the other apps that I have on the Mini have had to update as a result, to fix "bugs" associated with 7. But the only thing I've noticed is twice, on the ground here at home, my Foreflight program has closed unexpectedly so that the apps page comes on. I press the Foreflight button, and it comes back on where it was. It hasn't happened in the air (yet).

I have read all of the Foreflight messages, and I don't recall that Foreflight has said anything about 7. Foreflight has had several updates since 7 came out, and whether any were designed to fix any bugs with 7, I don't know. When they tell me to update, I do it, because all of this stuff is like black magic to me. :)

Re: Ipad iO7 vs IO6

I updated to 7 the same day it came out. I'm a tech guy, and I can't possibly wait (it's an addiction)! The software developers that make the apps create updates, not necessarily because 7 had any bugs, but for compatibility purposes. Still, any new software or operating system comes out with some glitches. It doesn't take long for those bugs to be fixed, so waiting a bit to make the upgrade is a good idea for most users. When a software developer like Wing-X recommends not to upgrade, it is usually because they are not ready to issue an update to fix THEIR compatibility issues with the new OS.

By the way, there are ways to make your iPad work faster. When you install 7, it turns on a lot of stuff that takes up processing power, thus slowing the iPad down. I have something that came out that recommends what to turn off in order to speed it up again. I'll look for it and post it.

Re: Ipad iO7 vs IO6

Just re-read the latest Foreflight blog. In essence, it says that there's no compelling reason to either not update or to update to 7. The one thing they do recommend is that the automatic updates of apps should be shut off, so that updates are manually done. Here's the link: http://blog.foreflight.com/2013/09/23/f ... -and-ios7/
