Iridium (Mot) 9505A to Lightspeed Zulu Interace
Avionics, airplane covers, tires, handheld radios, GPS receivers, wireless Wx uplink...any product related to backcountry aircraft and flying.
Hi All,
I bought an Iridium Motorola 9505A (in transit via UPS) and want to interface it to my aviation headset (Zulus). Unfortunately, the 9505A appears to be a design relic from the early 90s and has no bluetooth ability. What are some of your methods of interfacing? There is a wired in to the Zulu's but I've never tried them. Maybe its as simple as plug/play.
Thanks,

I'd expect that the Motorola can be plugged into the Zulu's line-in just like any other cellphone.
My 20-3G takes a standard 1/8" stereo miniplug input, but most cellphones use a similar but slightly smaller plug (2.5mm), so you need the special cable that comes with Lightspeed headsets that steps the cellphone plug up to the 1/8" miniplug. The connectors also have 3 rings on the plug instead of 2 like a regular stereo miniplug.
That may only be partially true for the Zulu...not sure.

Yes, the zulu's come with an adapter cable...the big $1000 question is whether the Iridium/Mot 9505A has that 2.5mm TRRS connector interface.
Thanks!! Spinny

After reading about it on a few different sites, it sounds like it does.

The Iridium 9505A should plug right in. It has the standard size adaptors like most cell phones. My iridum plugs right into my Pilot ANR headset (can't remember which model). Now, if there was just a simple way of hooking into my $1000 Bose headset. I have the big Cell adaptor thing but hate having another piece of junk hanging from the dash just so I can hook into my Bose. Can't imagine why a $1000 headset doesn't have any plug ins. You'll be happy with the Iridium. Has a nice external antenna with a 6 foot cable, can lay it on the dash of the plane and make calls in flight.

Yup, tested and works as suspected. Plugs right in. Very hand.
