Re: Kern Valley Spring BCP Flyin and Fishing Derby

Three of us flew in on Friday but with the weather report changes for 70% rain and possible freezing levels down to our level we left on Saturday, Good thing as the winds were 40+ on the way home and the en tire LA Basin was Overcast until late in the afternoon.

Re: Kern Valley Spring BCP Flyin and Fishing Derby

Glad to here all the John’s made it home OK. :D You got out of Dodge just in time. It was so nice on Saturday morning I decided to practice some short field take offs just after you left. Well I only got about 50-feet up on the first take off and was hit with a 25-degree 10-knot cross wind. So I though instead of take offs I’ll practice cross wind landings. Well the second landing was an EZ 70-degree right cross and a solid 15-20 knots. So I parked it and watched the wind socks dance the rest of the day. The storm hit about 6:00PM and it was a dandy all night.

The sun is out this morning (Sunday) but it’s windy as hell. So every one that decided to pass on this weekend, made the right call. The four planes that did came in, all my thanks to you and I’m happy to here your all home safe. :D

The place is packed with Fishing Derby Folks but for some reason on the way home last night I couldn’t see any boats out on the lake enjoying the three foot swells. I guess they have no since of adventure.

Thanks again and we’ll just have to try it again soon.

Once upon a time I remember there was a pile of nice split firewood at the north end of the campgrounds. The past two times I've visited...there was none...Not a huge deal as there is plenty of dry smokey driftwood to be found, but...
