Kitfox Factory Fly-in Labor Day weekend Homedale, ID S66
Get together with other pilots or enthusiasts. Plan it or get info about it here.
I'm flying to Idaho next Friday from the San Fran Bay area for the annual Kitfox Factory Fly-in. It's kind of neat to see their latest and greatest models and tour the factory where the kits are made. Here's my proposed Itinerary which I'll also use as a flight plan thread. I'm also headed North to my hometown on this trip after Homedale.
Friday daylight depart Nut Tree (KVCB) direct Placerville (PVF) Quick fuel stop then Blue Canyon, Sierraville, Denio Junction for Fuel. Then Denio direct Homedale.
Saturday Depart Homedale for Orofino Idaho S68. I'm going to basically follow Hwy 95 up through the Salmon River canyon to Grangeville for a top off and then over the hill to Orofino.
Sunday Orofino to Elk River for Breakfast
From Elk River I'm headed up by Pierce Idaho to land a few strips up there. One of them is CTPTA on the sectional. It's a Timber forest fighting strip that a 185 uses to shuffle people and parts around the backcountry during fire season. It's a one way grass strip with a big hill on one end. The other one is a Dairy Farm with a strip right outside Weippe ID. These are both private that I've made arrangements to land on.
Monday I'm headed back South to Ontario Oregon
Tuesday basically the reverse route home.
It would be great if someone wants to meet up and fly a leg with me. I'm not real thrilled about flying around this country by myself but sometimes it's a necessary evil if you really want to go. Sat and Sunday are my main play days. Going to take my time flying from Homedale to Orofino especially if the weather is good. There's some great places to play along the Salmon.
Tell someone where your going...Check

Be sure & check for fire-fighting TFR's if & when possible. They can pop up suddenly. For example, there was one declared just south of Republic (WA) airport yesterday morning, just in time for the fly-in there. I'm sure it caught some folks unaware. Just checked & it's gone today. But there are several TFR's for "hazards" in southwestern Idaho.

My neighbor goes to Burning Man every year and I just saw him pull out yesterday with his motorhome. I knew my route to Idaho took me close to that area. I looked a little closer and the route is only about 6 miles from the Black Rock City airport. I'm gonna fly over on Friday and snap a few pics. I'd like to go sometime..sure it would be an uh "intresting experience"

Anyone every flown in there before?

Maybe after I get out of the Military Matt

Plane is loaded and fueled....shooting for an 0600 departure in the morning. Spot page is in my Sig line. Weather is looking pretty good for the trip to Homedale. Going to have to play it by ear after that for the rest of the weekend.
