L-3 Lynx transponder support/repair

Let me start by saying I installed the L-3 Lynx 8 years ago to meet ADS-B requirements and to give me traffic in a compact and easy to use format….no room To mount an IPad in my ‘56 182…and I love the unit….but in the last two months the touch screen has gone dead…have recalibrated by the manual but freezes about 15 mins into a flight…still have traffic but can’t change codes or traffic display distances.

L-3 Customer support was clearly designed by the Soviets….it simply does not work…Ives spent 3/4 of a data reign to find a person who can simply tell me if I can do a product exchange or where repair can be effected and typical return time. It’s clear they have abandoned the product and are using others to distribute…sad because it’s a good unit.

Has anyone had a similar issue or found a way to get support on these …..my dealer is of course angry and their rep has been unable to tell them more than send an email to Grand Rapids…..

Re: L-3 Lynx transponder support/repair

I used (from L3's NGT-9000 Installation Manual dated 9 SEP 2022):

Aviation Communications and Surveillance Systems
19810 N. 7th Ave.
Phoenix, AZ 85027-4741
Telephone: (623) 445-7070 Technical Assistance Hotline (24/7)
Fax: (623) 445-7001
Email: [email protected]
Web: http://www.ACSS.com

L3 is geared toward big commercial & military operators who invariably use purchase orders & wire transfers, if not handling agents. I created my own $0.00 PO (that gives them permission to open the unit), received an estimate, signed same then wire-transferred funds. Bit of a pain, but it worked. TAT was 2 weeks.

I have found their Customer Support Engineers to be top-notch.

Re: L-3 Lynx transponder support/repair

The beat goes on…..I found a person in Grand Rapids and PHX that appeared to G*** a S*** but after a week my initial enthusiasm is waining …..I shipped overnight as requested and have confirmation from FedEx of receipt but no one can give a status of exchange…hoped to go into the weekend with a plan as I fly out on Thursday for a four day trip….Just back from OSH and after conversations with well placed industry folks the entire L-3 GA portfolio may not be a long term fit….and based on my experience they have already exited….the fact is they have no/zero retail orientation…they like to deal with airlines and military…

Sad to say the 800# Gorilla is the best way to go….and for after sale support the only real responsive option. GARMIN is committed to GA and while we may like to root for the “New Thinkers” it has been way too much work….for our sake a best approach may be to make them stronger so as to remain committed to GA..If all else fails a GARMIN. 345 and Aera is my solution

Re: L-3 Lynx transponder support/repair

Finally got a resolution….started July 12 and August 4th the unit arrived…$2100 for an exchange….conclusion…L-3 has no interest in our segment of the avaition market place….better off dealing with Big G…their commitment is very clear
