La Garita Creek Ranch (5CO6) late summer fly-in-Aug 28th-30

Please plan on joining us for the late summer 2015 La Garita Creek Ranch Fly-in Aug 28th-30th (Friday afternoon through Sunday morning).

This family friendly fly-in will include fly-outs to many wonderful Southern Colorado locations including Hooper/Sand Dunes Pool, Morning Shadows, Quarter Circle Circle, Castle Lakes, Creede, Saguache, and more. A cook will be present throughout the entire weekend to provide breakfast, lunch and the chuck wagon dinner (wonderful food at reasonable prices!). Kids, pets, and anyone with a love for aviation is welcome!

Please visit http://www.FlyColorado.org for the registration, waiver, airstrip information and cabin rentals/tent camping.

***Important: if you are planning on attending, please take a minute to fill out both the online registration and e-wavier.***

This has been a premier backcountry fly-in here in Colorado for the last 3 1/2years, and the ranch owner and manager have been gracious enough to host it again this summer. Please plan on attending to not only show your support for keeping the La Garita Creek Ranch open and available to pilots year round, but to also enjoy the best of what Colorado has to offer. (The ranch is primary funded by gracious pilots which pay for upkeep and insurance.)

We hope to see you there! For questions or comments, please email [email protected].

Re: La Garita Creek Ranch (5CO6) late summer fly-in-Aug 28th

Got to get my tent fixed again! It got "winded" in the big storm Saturday morning at OSH, and it's off to Big Agnes for another repair job, similar to the repair job it needed after the June La Garita event. Somebody needs to design a wind-proof tent! :)

So fly over on Saturday and stay through Monday, like I did in June, because I had a funeral to attend on Friday. It's actually kind of cool being the only one there.

A quick bump for the La Garita Fly-in. Weather looks good for this weekend.

Tom mentioned there might be a get together at Morning Shadows on Saturday morning for those interested.

See you there!

Having to forego it this time. My efforts to get my Big Agnes tent repaired from the OSH damage took a side road, and instead I just got a new Big Agnes tent today. Not enough time to put it altogether. But have fun, folks! It's a beautiful place.

Haha. Don't you usually put your tent together at the place where you camp? Or does it fit in your 172P assembled?

I remember when I was a kid being weathered in somewhere in the ID backcountry. This was way before anything satellite based. My old man pulled out some enroute charts and called in the blind on the local center frequency. Pretty soon he was chatting with some random airline puke getting a relay to flight service for an updated forecast. He did this twice a day for 3 days to stay updated.

Wisenheimers! :) What I should have said was that when it didn't look like the tent issue would get solved, I made other plans, including getting wrapped up in a couple of church-related events, and changing those plans was going to be too difficult.

Maybe next time, I'll get smart and not make any other plans, period.
