Lancair in the backcountry

A buddy and I flew a Lancair Evolution in to a really cool 1600 foot long grass ranch strip yesterday. It performed flawlessly.

Re: Lancair in the backcountry

I suspect it helped to have that monster turbine on the pointy end! I'd be concerned about those tiny little tires getting eaten by some chuckhole, as much as anything, though.

Yeah I'll say. I honestly thought the video was sped up for the first few seconds. I love to see guys doing stuff like that in planes like that.... Super rad!!!

My team and I recently developed a rough service landing gear option for this airplane. The tires are not that small, and the trailing link design on the mains is super forgiving. I wish we could fit an 8.50 in the nose gear tunnel. These clips were taken from the first field testing of the RSLG installation.

We performed static tests and drop tests to Part 23 regulatory standards and the gear passed all limit and ultimate load cases without even the slightest groan.

When flown light, you can cross the threshold at well under 70 KIAS comfortably. The stall characteristics are very docile and the low speed controllability is exceptional. The beta mode thrust on the PT6 gets you stopped in a big hurry!

Re: Lancair in the backcountry

I have to go on record here to say calling the aircraft a "Bo" is a discredit to the magnificent name that is "Bonanza!" Rejoice in those extra syllables.

Re: Lancair in the backcountry

I agree with Zane, but you have to emphasize the syllables like you would on the word "eurEka!!"

That and someone might think you are talking about your boyfriend instead of your airplane.

Just don't get carried away like that scallywag David Riggs, that met his demise trying to "waterski" a Lancair 320.
