LED Nav/Strobes
Avionics, airplane covers, tires, handheld radios, GPS receivers, wireless Wx uplink...any product related to backcountry aircraft and flying.
I recently installed them on my Decathlon...wanted a drop in LED replacement for a blown nav bulb. Its a bonus for me that they strobe. So right about being hard to look at, they are super bright. I have Whelen strobes as well so I may look a bit ridiculous with my "Disco Decathlon" but I'll be safe(especially during ACRO) ; )
I'm waiting on the tail-lamp and clear lenses...will post a vid when complete. Get yer sunglasses ready

One flight with the nav strobes, about 90% happy. Red led could be brighter. Maybe just the ambient light. Son on the ground at 500 agl could see tail and green easy but red was hard to pick out on partly cloudy morning. Low light- I think they're hard to beat for the $.

It all looks good, "from a distance".

I installed my LED Nav/Strobes to today. They are awesome excpet for the fact that the center LED on the tail bulb didnt work. I guess Ill get to see how customer service is. I shot a video but cant seem to figure out how to post it from my Ipad.

Thanks for the seizure!

I installed these in the Stinson a couple of weeks agoago, and other than finding out I have an issue with my tail light, I'm extremely happy with them. Now, if I could find a drop in replacement for my beacon for $100 or so, I'll be a happy man

Haha (seizure)! My tail light didn't work at first either. I tapped the rudder with my hand a few times and it kicked in(bad seat in socket I guess)

Mine turned out to be a bad ground. Cleaned the contact points between the light body and the rudder, and everything is perfect! I have an urge to do some night flying now, even though I wouldn't be able to see the lights. Guess I just want to show them off, haha!

Those work real good! You've got me sold! Great video. Staggered flashing is perfect. The more obnoxious, the better as that is what will get another pilots attention faster.

Hi Guys,
Not sure if I am missing something...but is there an offical LED replacement option for the cessna bulb A7512-12 for a 182 red/green wing navigation lights? I just didn't see that number listed as one of the bulbs that could be replaced. From the posted videos...the LED's look to be a great option.
Picked up a set of the AeroLed's for the taxi and landing lights....should be installed shortly.
Cheers

I bought the Aircraft Sextant LED Nav lights based on reading this thread. Have had them on a few weeks now n really like them. Super easy install, direct replacement as advertised. I really like the strobing feature for visibility in Marginal VFR weather or busy airspace etc. I already had a Whelen strobe n HID landing light, combined with those hopefully I'll be hard to miss, apparently polished planes are hard to see in the air.

I have the navstrobe lights and had problems and I worked with the inventor. Here's the deal: they are very sensitive to grounding problems. They will either be inconsistent or not work at all. An imperfect ground would not be noticeable with an old analog light, but he uses a digital flip/flop circuit for timing and it is definitely sensitive. I re-did the grounding points in the socket and to the airframe and they started working perfectly. (remember to use dielectric grease).
Also, be advised these are noisy! At least mine are - maybe he has fixed that. It doesn't break squelch, but when a weak radio breaks squelch you can hear these guys strobing. It does bother me. A strong radio masks the noise and you can't hear it, so most of the time it is OK.
My headset sockets are not wired properly and should be grounded directly back to the intercom and not to the airframe like they are. So that probably makes it worse.
They are super-bright and seem to be a very good safety addition to the airplane at a reasonable cost. I just wish they weren't so noisy.

Good comment. I have just been playing with mine in the hangar and have not actually flight tested them yet.
There is some indication of problems in this thread but they all seemed to be resolved. Anybody else have problems??

Dielectric(silicone) grease is an insulator. Might work to help seal the ground point from moisture, but won't help conductivity. You might try
GB Ox-Gard; a graphite impregnated grease. I picked up an 8 oz. tube(lifetime supply) at Lowe's before there was an Amazon.com. Was originally developed to improve conductivity on aluminum wire joints - it works great to clear up balky automotive bulb sockets. Just have to be careful not to create a short circuit path inside the socket.

This is the stuff the Avionics shop uses-

The company replaced my bad bulb for free within a couple weeks of emailing them. I also had a ground issue on the left. Cleaned up the socket and that was the end of the problem. I have also experienced noise a couple of times, but it has been very minor and only occurred during the strobe mode.

Think I'll get these for the Stinson instead of putting in power packs, etc. I have the old school beacon on the back of the plane, think I might just remove it and patch that hole over.
