Lightspeed Tango PIREP
Avionics, airplane covers, tires, handheld radios, GPS receivers, wireless Wx uplink...any product related to backcountry aircraft and flying.
Haven't seen much discussion on these on here, so I thought I'd give a quick PIREP. I bought a set of Tangos about 2 months ago and have around 15 hrs flying with them now. So far I am very happy with them. They fit a bit nicer then my Zulus, amd have no wires to tangle with. They are a tiny bit heavier, but have no wires. One thing that took a bit to get used to is that there is no to very little side tone. So you just have to know that your voice is still loud in the other headsets so don't yell, haha! There is also a very small echo, but not enough to bother me.
The rechargeable batteries are nice. Mine are new enough that no panels have to come off to charge. Had it go dead on me in flight the other day, and the passive is much better then my Zulus. I have a phone charger in my plane and plugged the headset in and was back to quiet in short order.
The fact that there is no wires makes the couple oddities seem like nothing. I figured I would like not having wires, but man, it's crazy how much more freedom you have. Maybe I just had my wires ran unorganized, but I couldn't figure out how to do it better.
Overall I am very happy with them and would recommend them at this point.
David

Thanks Glacier. I'll check that out. Is that the "gain" screw?

I have heard there's a little bit of lag on communications. Any experience with that?

Not that I have noticed. I don't fly in super high traffic areas, but the radios have been pretty been some days with all the fire traffic. Mind you I'm not listening on another headset for comparison though...

Are you using an intercom? If so, does it work just as well using the intercom?

Yes I have a sigtronics SPA-4S in my life 172. Used it in other planes with various intercoms, but never used it with just a comm. Works the same in all the A/C I've used it in.
