I have several hours now on my new 29" ULTRALIGHT Airstreaks, I stress the ultralight part as I thought for the last 1500 hours while I was flying around with the "regular" Airstreaks I was doing good. Turns out I was packing around an extra 12 pounds by not availing myself of these somewhat new (I'm not sure how long they've been making them) 1320 lb gross weight tires. They seem to be constructed a bit different, the side walls have ripples in them, and the tire has a bead down the center, a result I guess of a different layup technique I suppose. Not a complaint just a comment. i pretty much covered all this in an earlier post, but wanted to put it in the LSA department and also chime in on how much i like them after getting more time on them.
The first time I pushed the plane out of the hangar, I was amazed by the difference in rolling resistance! As in, WAY less. I am also noticing a difference in initial acceleration, it gets out of the hole quicker. A win/win as far as I'm concerned. When I think of all the climbouts I've made, packing an extra 12 lbs.,

Now to see how long I can go without hitting pavement, more then 10 hours so far. I also have to decide if I am going to start, again, the Herculiner bed liner regime. It sure paid off on the (since sold) original Airstreaks. If I can make it until winter, when I switch to the skis, without a pavement landing I'll wait until then.
