Flew a Lancair IV from Guam to Jacksonville Fla.... NON STOP.... 400 gallons of fuel and almost 40 hours later he is safely on the ground....

Amazing flight. I think it would be a lot of fun to plan that flight. Have a little harder time thinking it sounds fun to fly for 40 hours in a little cockpit...I like to sleep at night...

Through the years, on long hour projects of various non flying kinds, I have noticed some kind of emotional wall at 36 hours. It's not just me either. I think there are probably only 5% of the folks still functioning reasonably well after 36 hours. I also think that training helps; the military thinks so anyway. I'd say the pilot here probably worked his way up to that. Good job.

The pilot is the builder of the plane. He is a retired Americam Airlines 757 /767 captain... What really amazes me is the 38+hour flight he made just to get to Guam in the days just prior to this almost 40 hour flight back to Fla... The flightaware log of his previous flights is record breaking in my book..... He did it alone and supposably had 410 gallons onboard. Needed most of the 7000 foot runway to get off the ground. I am pretty sure he is still sleeping since the landing and I can't wait to hear how much fuel was left in the plane after landing in Jacksonville Fla...

According to FA he obviously did some warm up flights. 9 minutes then 12 etc.
Looking at the altitude graph it took 20 minutes to get to 7000', no doubt right a gross weight.
Too bad the FA graphs end before mid Pacific. I posted the flight in the comments section, maybe somebody at FAHQ will go research the records and come up with the rest of the flight.
All I know is my butt couldn't do that. I like being able to walk to the bathroom every couple of hours.

I still have a aux 90 gallon belly tank that fits all the champ, citabria, and scout family of birds, if any of you want to skip Canada on your next Alaska trip??

Pretty amazing endurance, on the part of the aircraft AND the pilot. 16 hours from Spain to California was about enough to drive me insane, and that's with a coffee pot and toilet on board. Hats off to ths guy.

There are 4 small icons at the top left, the airplane icon puts a panel at the left that shows what ZQ is doing.
Use the plus to zoom in or the minus to zoom out. You use the pile of papers icon to determine the view. Try hybrid view.

If you click the X, it will take you to a screen where you select Tracks and then click on the top latest date.
Once he's flying this will get you Bill's track as it is reported by Spidertracks. (it also shows him taxiing while on the ground)
You must click on the last little teardrop to get his latest position info in a box on the screen.
As he gets closer to some interesting landmarks you can zoom in.
