Maule M4 220 or 220 Super Stinson?
Technical and practical discussion about specific aircraft types such as Cessna 180, Maule M7, et al. Please read and search carefully before posting, as many popular topics have already been discussed.
On the rear harnesses, would think that you would want to do them at recover as its going to require some welding I think & I would want to see the 337 1st, don't know of anybody that has them? I did the recoil harnesses up front but required welding the brackets in to conseal them under the headliner, but I really like them. Most just used fixed & loop them around the cross bar. Everyone say's the elevator gap seals are the biggest performance bang for the buck. Cheap & easy if trying to expand the slow end of the envelope for landing flare.

Put in a set of shoulder harnesses. Would also recomend a new fuel valve with the both positision if it doesn't have it. Modify your doors to patroler doors to enjoy the view when able. Other than that ENJOY!

There is a modification that can be done to the Maule fuel valve for the both. Drill one hole. The SWPC (short wing Piper club) cd has the drawing instructions.

Congratulations-- that's a good looking airplane.
It oughta be a real ass-kicker with that 220.
I've always liked the way the M4 looks, the later shark-finned models not so much. (sorry boys!)
I've got an old Affordable Flying magazine (winter 1993) with a pretty good pirep on the M4/220, I an scan the article & email it to you if you'd like. Just give me your email address.

John, what is a round #$ to recover a M4 with stewarts?
In your shop?
Thanks

Have as much Fun as is Safe, and Keep SMILIN! GT,
My issue right now with doing a recover is the likelihood of the job turning into a full restoration, with the associated time and expense. I've got the spare 220, maybe I can get a field approval to make it a twin. "Maule M4 440C" has a nice ring to it...

If you just drop it off, I'd say you'll look at 15 grand realisticly....but you can come help and save yourself money! There's LOTS of things that you can do that you're not going to have to pay my shop rate to have me do.... That M4 is by far my favorite Maule, and with the 220 and a nice light cover job, would be an outstanding performer! Even with Razorback, they do great!

What kind of turnaround time would be required with the assistance of a reasonably mechanically inclined noob? And does that price include stripping and repainting the frame?
