Your videos are superb and thanks for posting it!

Did you have to buy new Rotax components to make it back to Ohio?

Re: Miracle Of Flight - Ohio Bush Planes Final Episode

At least he made it to TBO, sort of.

A totally unqualified opinion, with nothing to back it up, (I'm no gear head) but I'd hazard a guess that LOTS of av gas was run through that Rotax. Lots as in relative to hrs on mo gas, that brief shot of the piston head looked like lead build up, but like I said, I really don't know.... I'd still be stuck on the ground wherever they were. I know lots of 912 guys run lots of av gas, I avoid it like the plague, it's like the anti aviation fuel in my mind. If I have occasion to peek at my piston head I will now have something to compare it to. Less then 30, maybe 40 gallons at most of av gas ran through mine, total, in 1400 hrs. Maybe it's wishful thinking on my part, we'll see if I make TBO (2,000 hrs).

I'd bet Greg's engine has had less AV gas in it then any out there. I only know of one time that I was with him when he put enough in to get to a gas station.

Re: Miracle Of Flight - Ohio Bush Planes Final Episode

It's amazing the way AvGas disfigures a piston.

One problem in Hawaii and other locations next to the ocean is salt buildup in the inductions tubes. The salt actually begins to restrict air flow. Sets like a rock too. The overhaul shops ask if we are running bad fuel? Unless they know the area and symptoms of salt spray. There are times when HEAVY salt spray can be seen up to 2500' MSL during large surf (30' plus breakers). Nice place for a composite propeller too.

I'd like to know about the beef with Just that he's talking about in his description. Somebody please PM me if you're shy. We are looking at all options for the next build.

I've never heard anything bad other than the build is a little more challenging than Rans. I really would like to know otherwise.

Re: Miracle Of Flight - Ohio Bush Planes Final Episode

The piston looks like that because it was steam cleaned by the leaking coolant. It should have a nice coating of ash all the way across, with a little more in the center. Depends on the shape of the head, really. But water vapor in the combustion chamber has a nice way of removing any carbon deposits from a piston/head quite nicely.

It's the Internet-- Most people should just quit typing right there. But they don't. It wouldn't be nearly as much fun if you could rely on only people with actual real life experience and knowledge to post. This place would be a ghost town. 8)

Re: Miracle Of Flight - Ohio Bush Planes Final Episode

Patrol, as I two cents'd to Greg over on Vimeo, WWWAAAYYYY too much doom and gloom (and cryptic references) about all this. :!: Good grief, don't take the toys and go home, there's a pile of el cheapo' BC-12D's and BC-65's on Barnstormers. (asking between $10K and $18K) Hard to beat a baby continental for fuel burn and overall reliability. LSA airplanes, Ohio farm field friendly (even Nevada high country friendly like Pop's), plenty of support and parts. Don't like flying a cave, put in a skylight and door glass. Fat tires, climb prop and your set. Go hog wild and put in an 85. Why worry and get frustrated about new when you can go tried and true for minimal $$$? :?:

Anyway, I throw that out there as an antidote to aviation depression... :D

Re: Miracle Of Flight - Ohio Bush Planes Final Episode

Pardon any cryptic references from me or my buddies. Few real pilots have shared as much as this Ohio Bush project has given. Until you give such a large portion of your personal life, and let the masses examine the path you have taken, I'm going to blow off most of the cents..

While I do like Taylor Crafts, the liquid cooled engine was amazing. It has taken me to some breathtaking places, over open water and rugged wilderness and covered enough ground to circle the earth's equator 8 times--with very little maintenance.

Think of OBP as an art project and not a guide to being the perfect pilot.

Now you might understand my original reference to politics and the search for purity, which I deleted because people aren't ready to deal with it yet.

Good luck living in 1936. Hitler, Jesse Owens...ah the good old days.

Re: Miracle Of Flight - Ohio Bush Planes Final Episode

Between the veiled references, deleted comments and even deleted video, what an odd thread this has been!

I don't know what's going on, but if this is really the last OBP video; so long and thanks for all the work. I know it takes time to put videos together and have enjoyed all of them! :-)
