I'm confused. I watched the "Final Video" and enjoyed it - to me it was a great success story - personal triumph over adversity and all that. I figured the title and video voice overs were just an OBP/Greg tongue-in-cheek thing. Sorry for being dense. I still think congratulations are in order for a job well done Greg.

I tend to disagree, i think your videos are the best example as to how to be the perfect pilot, as the perfect pilot is the one who enjoys themselves the most. And you defiantly take the cake for that mate! To top it off you instil a sense of enjoyment in others and inspire us all to get out there and give it a go ourselves!

Loved the video mate! Keep them coming! And look forward to seeing you back in the air. Wether its in that or something else! Are you building something new or getting that one back up?

Re: Miracle Of Flight - Ohio Bush Planes Final Episode

That trip was awesome, a ton of fun, and memorable. I needed that trip and needed that unfortunate event to occur. I'm not really sure what i mean by that.

I was sooooo lucky I had Ted in the back seat. He was laid back AND a skilled motorcycle mechanic, or at least a fearless one. I was ready to ship him home in a rental car after making him puke his way 300 miles south, and he was like, "well, lets just get parts and fix it. I've got the rest of the week off. Maybe we can still make it to Sun n Fun."

I guess I'm supposed to write in about lead deposits or antifreeze cleansings or whatever. I really don't know, so fire off as many guesses as you want. As PatrolGuy eluded, it's painful to watch me do a cross country from the window of a 120 mph Scout with the flaps pulled out to match my cruise speed...but then add my quest for MoGas and you will pull your hair out. I'll circle every town across America looking for gas stations next to air strips. I hate lead as much as courierguy. Ethanol doesn't scare me. I probably have 1300 hrs behind ethanol, so add that to any speculation if you want.

But I have burned 100LL through Canada and Alaska a couple of times, would those deposits still be there 600 hrs later? I guess.
The engine isn't quite as bad as I made it out to be in the video. Ronnie actually blessed it and I've got another 13 trouble-free hrs on it since then. We flew home in the dark over the Smoky Mountains and it felt good. -a little cold without a heater, but good.

But as far as calling it the final episode:

You steal a video boy's box of cameras and he will plumb go crazy. It didn't help that there was footage of that Crazivan guy on the chips. I've got a reward out for the cams on Craigslist and an eye on the pawn shops, but I think they are gone forever.

I know, waaah, cry me a river. But the writing was already on the wall. I just didn't have the decoder ring to read it. I know y'all think OBP was a huge corporate racket, but I couldn't eat the T-shirts and tail wheels I had earned, and it was often a full time job (the coolest job in the land).

I know similar stuff has happened to a lot of you out there. There are plenty of dudes driving vehicles like mine that are worth much less than a GoPro...meanwhile having phat tires and a stack of beautiful airplane parts in the garage. It just happens over time.

Anywho, the episodes weren't THAT great but I thank you for the kudos and whatnot. I can edit video in my sleep, do a one point landing on a medium sized cow turd, and drink a quart of monkey and still stand still, but I couldn't have had the experience without some key dudes showing me some cool stuff along the way...all starting with Don DeVoe in Alaska and John Patrol-Guy Graham right here in my back yard. I owe that boy my first born two-headed calf. My videos have opened doors but they have also scared up more drama than I care to deal with most of the time and it effects my flying buddies too. Hence you see deleted stuff here and there. We go to bat for each other in the brotherhood of the Buckeye state, but it often backfires. I'm sorry I don't want to comment on certain things, and I'm even more sorry you'll have to find things out the hard way.

I'll find a new outlet soon. My girlfriend says I need a private blog as an outlet to keep me out of trouble.

Keep me in mind for any large video projects you need done in the future. I can run-n-gun in shitty conditions. I'm capable of commercial/corporate stuff or full-blown marketing, but what I'd really like to do is an aviation based documentary. I'll pull the trigger on new equipment for the right price. -not agency prices, but fair tech/pilot wages. In the meantime it's nearly asparagus season and I'm promoting myself to CEO of the spears. Over and out!

geesh, while im an admitted redneck from idaho, I've never seen avgas cause issues in a bad way in ANY motor. quite the opposite....lots of folks choose to run cheaper auto fuel, and thats their choice, but for sure if u decide to dial up some bigger power, whether its a rotax or whatever, do ur self a favor, run the avgas and quit buying motors earlier than u should! we actually blend avgas into our hotrod sleds, etc both 2 and 4 stroke....and it always works very well...motors pushing 170-300 hp, mostly turbo'd...

Sorry for the drama, Greg. Texas has a few BCP'ers who'd be more than happy to show you a good time if you're ever down this way.

Tragically, ATXCitab (Hank Sasser) perished in a crash in August 2014. He was a great guy and will be missed. -Z

Like Jomac said. Nothing wrong with running AvGas in any engine. I've even talked about this subject with my ex-coworkers at a global motorcycle company and they even said not a problem in any of their products.

Greg.... Sorry about your missing GoPro's!! Let me know if you'd like help with anything. I know people that know people

The BRP-Powertrain GmbH (a.k.a. Rotax) engineers have an issue with the use of av-gas as shown by what is written in the operators handbook, service manuals, and other documentation published by the company.

Greg, put me on a list if you ever do make a private site/blog/subscrition for videos. I thoroughly enjoy them.

I hope the cameras get returned and if you decide to pass the hat for replacements I'd gladly kick in for the hours of video I've enjoyed. I certainly hope to continue viewing more aviation themed adventures from your perspective. Don't let this hold you back, those of us that like this kind of thing feed off videos like yours and they inspire others like crazivan at a time when GA needs members. I was inspired by them as well when I stumbled across them a couple years back as I was working on my PP certificate. I wish there was a way to fund stuff like this as your investment, just in time alone, in making these videos is significant (I know; I've dabbled.)

Anyway, just hoping you'll be able to get back to it! There are lots of people doing videos, but yours were always unique and different in a good way!!

Re: Miracle Of Flight - Ohio Bush Planes Final Episode

Saving about 2 bucks a gallon, burning about 4 per hr., and flying a couple hundred hours a year and MOST importantly keeping the lead out is why I use mo gas. My last 300 gallon batch cost me $3.50 per gallon. Unlike the other examples (snow machines etc.) the Rotax uses the same crankcase engine in the reduction gear redrive system, and I understand that there is a long term issue there if using av gas. Also, it is recommended that the oil be changed every 25 hrs if using the evil leaded avgas, I go 75 hrs on the mo gas, another big money and hassle saving.

The bottom line is ROTAX itself says mo gas is the way to go, it ain't like we're just cheap and trying to "get by" on the mo gas and the hell with the engine's long term health, on the contrary we are spendthrifts ( #-o ) and are burning the fuel THE ENGINE MANUFACTURER PREFERS. The fact that it happens to be less expensive is the icing on the cake.

Greg: I hope you get your stuff back, dirty bastards! I have no idea what the rest of the video was about or any comments made therein, part of the fun is trying to figure what the heck you are doing, and why. I did respond to someone with what I thought was a PM, and then realized I had mistakenly posted it on the forum, thus my delete. It never occurred to me that posting a "delete" could be construed as stirring the pot or as a way to insinuate something, or otherwise stir the pot. Interesting, I will keep this in mind for future use

If someone posts pics with your camera, you may get lucky and find them with the cameras meta data.

Thanks for the entertainment.
