Montague now sells a complete e bike

For those not wanting to convert one to e power as did I. https://www.montaguebikes.com/product/m-e1/

Re: Montague now sells a complete e bike

Now occupies the top of my wish list! I was going to have the local dealer build me one similar to yours. This is better for me. I like how the motor is integrated.

Thanks for posting!

Edit: Hold the phone. That’s not a mountain bike. That’s a commuter. Dang. Not what I hoped or assumed.

They might just be testing the waters, I'd bet a mountain bike configuration soon follows.

Re: Montague now sells a complete e bike

A lot, most, of the traditional pedal power only bike companies have now jumped on the e bandwagon. I posted about my setup on the Montague blog a few years back, and got some immediate pushback from aghast traditionalists :x , and the next time I checked, Montague had pulled my post! The marketplace has spoken, e bikes are here to stay.

I can't deal with a step through class 1 that only goes to 20 mph. Hopefully they expand their line.

I didn't want to mention that, but yeah IT'S A GIRLS BIKE! A holdover from elementary school days maybe, but I want a crotch banger frame. It is very hard to find a factory built e bike with the performance of the homebuilt conversions like mine, as most are designed to the European standards, which limit the amount of power, and speed. Here in the USA =D> , we can ride hot rod bikes, mine can hit 38 mph, and that is hauling ass on a bike. Mostly though I use the 1300 watts of power it has for regular bike speed riding, while having tremendous range, or for first gear rock crawling. With some newer components I could up it's power to a bit over 2000 watts, you wouldn't believe some of the hot rodding going with these things, some guys actually races Corvettes etc. off a stop light, and WIN.

Wow, that thing is 54lbs

Also it has a big fold (not compact).

Pretty poor choice for a GA bike\e-bike in my opinion.

Got a link to the one you ride? Sounds like a hoot!

Yeah, that's one thing I never understood... Who decided that the bikes with the bar right where it hurts the most would be called "boy's bikes" anyway? I understand that the cross-bar provides better frame rigidity and keeps the frames intact under serious abuse, but why not make it little lower down? It would work just as well, and we wouldn't be performing the "Nutcracker Ballet" every time we ride...

By the way, the whole "step-through bikes are for girls" is pretty much a "US" thing, as European and South American folks could care less about the cross bar location. I'm still riding the same bike I bought years ago (with the cross-bar), but I'm pretty sure my next one will be a step-through e-bike... So much easier to get on and off, especially when you've got "stuff" on the rack...

I just can't afford something like the e-Montague, and I'm considering a Ride-1UP Core-5, and adding my own suspension fork and seat post later, if I decide I need it.

Mine weighs more!
But if you want to climb mountains and easily hit over 30 mph, need the power to pull a folding trailer with 10 plus gallons of mogas onboard, and want the overall capability of a full sized bike, it's going to weigh. And cost. The Montague folds as well as it possibly can, for it's size...., my first e bike was a 20 " fat tired one that due to it's frame geometry was even bulkier when folded. There is only so much you can do when dealing with 26" tires. For some reason, I prefer the normal sized appearance of the full sized Montague, riding capabilities aside. If for no other reason that it doesn't draw the eye so much when parked outside a store for instance, (unlocked) it's "just a bike." I also don't like driving around a strange town in a loaner car with "AIRPORT COURTESY CAR" emblazoned on it. On my full sized bike I can cruise around a small town and like a jogger, you're just part of the landscape, nothing going on here, guess I'm just a sneaky bastard, but I prefer that anonymity over a ride that looks so odd everyone notices it.

If I just wanted something to ride around the ramp or for short rides in town, and my plane's payload and space was even more limited than my S-7S, I'd get this: https://lunacycle.com/luna-folding-ebike/ And before someone posts a link to a similar at first glance appearing bike, keep in mind e bikes are like anything else, you get what you pay for!

First pic, east of Challis, landed on the flats below, about 2 K climb.Image
Second pic, Big Southern Butte, at least 2K.Image
Third: Landed Double Springs, rode up to above 9K to the Wildhorse lookout, 3 K+ gain.Image
Fourth: It leaves my main baggage area untouched, and I can stuff a lot of gear below it, no passenger though! In less then 3 minutes I'm riding off after landing. if there was a better overall bike/plane combo for my needs, I'd own it.

Re: Montague now sells a complete e bike

I'm still really partial to my electric unicycle. It is awfully compact, can go 45mph, and run for 50 miles on a charge. The only problems are no suspension, funny looks from folks, and it is heavy, although about the same as an e-bike.

A mono wheel type, or a big wheel uni? I don't even no the language when it comes to them. If 38 feels damn fast on a full sized bike, 45 on a uni of ANY sort is sick, that's just wrong! No surprise it's more compact, we need to start a separate thread for unicycles carried in an airplane, an entirely different animal. But while we're here, post a pic if possible.

I should clarify that it is the 100V version, too. I didn't realize how ratty it looked until the picture popped up on my computer. It's really been through the wringer. Looks like the chairs need dusting, too.

Is that so?

Apologies everyone. I did not intend to ruffle any feathers here.
I just thought as general aviation pilots and\or backcountry pilots we were focused on
A: weight savings
B: bulk of equipment (size) for packing up airplane

...hence my comment.
