Morning Shadows Colorado (CD69): Owners 90th on 9/6

Sorry for the late notice: Lionel Carpenter (Morning Shadows Owner) wishes to publicly celebrate being 90 this coming Labor Day Weekend. All are invited. His son, Lee will present a roasted pig Saturday afternoon, and has offered to fix breakfast for all campers Sunday morning. Come on in anytime that weekend. Lee has prepared numerous parking and camping spots.
The airstrip was just mowed yesterday, and is in wonderful shape. Lee has informed me that he has placed an orange cone at the smoothest touchdown point.

Lionel is such a great guy, glad to see a party happening.

I will try to make it over.

Thanks Tom, I'm headed home from Idaho that weekend and would be tempted to drop in on Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning.
It looks like a fun time.

I'd love to come, but my airplane is temporarily grounded pending replacing the fuel flow/pressure gauge. Happy BD, Lionel!

My plane is down too, with a cracked exhaust stack. I hope to have her flying again soon - if so will see you there.

Tom, thanks for posting. Looks like I'm "likely". Not sure if Girlscout will make this one. Is there an RSVP or waiver or anything like that?

Thanks. cubscout

Sorry for ignoring my own post! Very busy time of the year for me.
No waiver required. Looks like a good turnout and the weather is going to be awesome!
Lee has promised a roast pig and keg of beer Saturday afternoon with breakfast Sunday morning.
I will have a set of wheels available if anybody needs to run into town.

Seems I remember some instructions re: flying in to CD69 but can't find them.

Bummer, I'm going to miss this one. Please give Lionel a big birthday party for his 90th!

Arnie: 122.90 freq, left patterns, best area to land is in the middle 1/3 (bare spot), avoid the far north end, park by the hangar or far south end.

Re: Morning Shadows Colorado (CD69): Owners 90th on 9/6

Sorry to hear that Matt, we will miss you. See you at La Garita though!
Arnold ( and everybody else): The strip is landable both ways, I prefer to land to the south, as the turnoff to camping and such is on the south end. Lee told me that he will have an orange cone at the smoothest landing area. Lee (Lionel's son) has not flown much, and I have not been over there to see the cone placement. Use your own judgment, the only place I would avoid is the northern 1/4 of the strip. Tall grass and a little rough. In a cub type aircraft, I actually prefer a right pattern if winds dictate a North landing. All in all, a pretty easy strip.
I won't get there till early afternoon. Should be a great time!

Re: Morning Shadows Colorado (CD69): Owners 90th on 9/6

Sorry you guys couldn't make it. Had a great time, great party. Four airplanes from Durango and a huge local turnout. Close to fifty people in all.
Lee's roasted pig was awesome. He will be cooking breakfast tomorrow for anybody that wants to show up. Said he will serve around 9 am.
Lionel flew his PA-11 in yesterday, said he might take it around the patch tomorrow. Great way to finish off his 90th!
