That was from about a year ago and it could be different now.

I was told recently by FR that nickel leading edge upgrade is $1,000.

I am dealing with MT Prop USA in Florida for the repair. The charge for a blade overhaul is $900 and the upcharge for switching to nickel was $400 per blade.

I pulled the prop this AM and sent it off to Florida and then this happened......WTF?! I PUT ALL THE BLAME ON THAT BLOWHARD SKYWAGONS EAST BLAH BLAH BLAH DUDE!!

Oh crap! Now you've done it. Did you not learn anything from watching me? And Gunny? And Greg? And all the others? It starts innocently enough...good thing winter is a comin'. Lots of time to do everything else.

But not to worry, shortly I'll have lots of fitch board that will need painting. ;-) That will help with the AMUs.

Re: MT Prop and the rock(s)

I shipped the prop on Monday and the price was higher than expected because I forgot about insurance. Getting $13k worth jacked the price by $130. It was $575 to ship it UPS 2-day air from Kenai to Florida. FedEx would have been $145 more than that. We don't have the ground shipping option from AK, but stuff sent to AK from the lesser-48 does, The return will be less. Total should still be less than $6K for the upgrade and new paint.

Re: MT Prop and the rock(s)

There weren't any shops closer capable of the repair? I was considering an MT when the time rolls around in the long future when I OH the motor. On my way back from Barrow I stopped at PAWN and ended up with crap being flung forward like crazy on t/o. Ice-snow clumps with plenty of rocks.

Getting the blades upgraded to nickel leading edges requires them being sent to Germany. The blade cores have to machined to accept the new nickel edges.

Re: MT Prop and the rock(s)

Will be interesting to see how this all plays out. When I got my first MT delivered, Fed EX let it rattle around in the truck so that one blade was sticking out of the cardboard box and slightly damaged. I sent it back and said I'd pick the next up in person. Was alerted the second was on the way by Fed EX. This time in a wood crate good for Africa. When the truck doors opened, one end of the box was up on a pallet of freight and the other on the floor. I thought, not again. Luckily, the prop hub was bolted to the box and was more secure so it appeared to be alright. Not sure how many "G"s it had going down the road.

Re: MT Prop and the rock(s)

Good post akgreg I found myself in a very similar situation last year with a single stone ding that was deep enough to unbond the stainless leading edge from the blade. I also suspect it was a stone thrown forward off my tyre. It was my understanding that replacing the leading edges was a fairly quick job but alas my prop was sent back to Germany also. While you guys in the U.S may have pretty good service on repairs, I had something like a 3-month wait - through a very busy season. I ended up buying a 2 blade prop to see me through. It will be interesting to see how the nickel goes.
