MT vs Hartzell 2 Blade Scimitar
Lycoming, Continental, Hartzell, McCauley, or any broad spectrum drive system component used on multiple type.
In the market for a prop and I can't find too much info on the scimitar. Its half the cost, so is the MT really worth the cost on my 182B? The weight savings would be immense, but again not sure if its worth the cost. Does anyone have experience behind the scimitar with the 0470L?

I owned a 56 182 for a while. Stock o470, 3 bladed hartzel scimitar. I was real impressed with that setup. Pulled VERY hard, climbed fantastic. Ran smooth and cruised well. Very noticeable performance gain over the standard 2 bladed 182’s that I’ve flown before. Slight weight gain on the nose of course, but not horrible. I’ve never flown behind an MT, so can’t comment there…. I totally understand the “sticker shock” though.

I had a Hartzell when I bought my Cessna 182, replaced it with the MT 2 blade.
Weight difference was 16 pounds , and made the nose a lot lighter, first thing you notice is quick acceleration and how smooth the MT is, then when approaching it allows you to slow way down, its like an airbrake, which help for steep approaches.
Since then all my airplanes have an MT propeller, totally worth it.

Thanks for all the great info. This forums a huge help. Ultimately with the timing and everything else going on, the scimitar works better for me at the moment. It'll be on the airplane Friday!
Thanks again
