MVP 50P VS JPI 900

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

Re: MVP 50P VS JPI 900

Has anyone gone thru and compiled a list of what or how many engine instruments each can replace?

For example, I need fuel quantity for two tanks, tack, manifold pressure and fuel flow. So the with the CGR30 I still need oil temp, pressure and voltage gauges.
Cantor edm 900 replace all of that? The MVP 50 can but at a bit more cost.

Yes the 900 replaces all those according to the manual. Panel would look pretty empty after....lol Maybe the cgr 30 isn't such a straight comparison after all

Re: MVP 50P VS JPI 900

It seems like there is some confusion to these instruments in size and price. You need to be comparing the correct instruments.
These are the prices from AS based on a 6cyl. I didn't even look at available rebates.

MVP-50P $5998
EDM-930 $6008

CGR-30P $3538
EDM-900 $3595

Re: MVP 50P VS JPI 900

Besides price, is it really such a direct comparison? Thats my dilemma. Much larger screen on the jpi 900 than the cgr. CGR replaces up to 5 primary instruments, jpi 900 replaces all - up to 11, plus fuel tanks on top of that yet depending what version. The bang for the buck is the dilemma.

I think it boils down to whether or not fitting completely inside a 3 inch hole flush is important.
When I started my project I very much wanted to keep the panel original with the dress cover. That made the CGR the only show in town.
But if that's not a concern, the value of the CGR diminishes (unless the guys at JPI are truly jerks. All the ECI folks I've talked to are extremely nice and helpful but I haven't talked to any JPI folk)

Are both prices with all transducers and sending units? I know ECI comes with everything for the listed price.

Re: MVP 50P VS JPI 900

NOW I read on the EI site that the basic CGR 30 can replace 4 primary gauges. Wish I jumped on the basic now when the $1000 rebate was on. But no mention of any primary replacements allowed with the basic on Spruce's documents and I could almost swear I never saw that before on EI's site while the rebate was on. I still cannot find any documents of what 4 exactly can be replaced with the basic. This is very confusing

The JPI supposedly comes with everything also..

Re: MVP 50P VS JPI 900

The rebate is still up on their website as of one minute ago. I know that the deadline was Jan 21, 2017, but I would call Dave Arata at E.I. and ask if they would still honor it. For how long they had the rebate going, I can't see them not giving a little grace period.
Make up your mind. We can't make the decision for you. I'm joking, but serious at the same time. You will be happy with whatever you choose.

Re: MVP 50P VS JPI 900

The CGR-30 is configurable as to which instruments it replaces.You can pick any four of what's listed with Tach and Manifold always at the top.
The other instruments are put on a secondary screen that you flip to.
My guess is, this was done due to the 3" real estate limits the amount of data you can present.

Re: MVP 50P VS JPI 900

You're getting information here that conflicts with the EI documentation. The CGR-30P is available in two versions: Basic and Premium

The "Basic" is pre-configured, and you get that set-up, configured for your aircraft. That's why it's so cheap - no options.

The "Premium" is highly configurable, and can replace up to 8 existing "primary" functions, plus provides up to 5 additional "non-primary" functions. The Marking and Configuration Requirements document can be found here: http://buy-ei.com/wp-content/uploads/20 ... -Rev-F.pdf

Primary Functions – RPM, EGTs, and CHTs are always provided, then you pick five from the following list:
* MP
* Fuel Flow
* Fuel Pressure (requires engine to have a fuel pump)
* TIT
* Oil Pres
* Oil Temp
* Left & Right Fuel Level (counts as 2 functions)
* Main Fuel Level
* Aux Fuel Level
* Vac
* Volts
* Amps

Non-Primary Functions – Select five from the following list:
* OAT in ºF
* OAT in ºC
* Horsepower (requires MP)
* Flight Timer
* Engine Time
* Tach Time
* Local Time
* Zulu Time
* Volts (no limits)
* Carb Temp*
* Amps* (if not selected as Primary)
* Fuel Flow* (if not selected as Primary)
* Hydraulic Pressure*
* G-Meter*
* Cabin Altitude*
* Cabin Differential Pressure*
* IAT*
* CDT*
* C.O. Detector*
Note: items marked with * are extra cost
