Re: My new project, turbo Rotax

looks to be super interesting for sure! gotta appreciate mo power...! hope that they dont dare run pump gas of any kind in that thing though...with really good fuel and not too much boost, it might just stay alive...!

Re: My new project, turbo Rotax

It will run premium pump gas just fine, it is intercooled and the timing is backed off.
Also the compression is reduced to 9.2-1 from 10-1.

I'm with you on that one. Just when Im think'in I'm becoming a rocket scientist, shit no. Me dumb, daaah

To mongo
But I do have a semi intellect questions and rambling.
What turbo are you using? Is this the Bully hawk kit with the computer boost control?
I heard there is a turbo produced in Brazil for the 912??? and one that Savage aircraft is coming out with that is mechanically controlled.
Have you heard of these ones? I suppose manual boost control is out considering the risks.
Im wondering if all these turbo kit suppliers are getting the turbo from an "off the shelf supplier" They cannot all be casting and forging there own units.

Wow! That is awesome. The more I'm around Experimental aircraft the cooler they become. If there is any chance for GA to thrive, it will be with and because of Experimentals.

Re: My new project, turbo Rotax

Hey there Mr. Mongo: I assume that engine wizard is the party responsible for what I saw at Douglas? Bruce wasn't there when I was so a ride or getting to fly it (the 145 horse S-7 at the shop) wasn't in the cards, I was in a hurry anyway to get out of there before the wind came up, more. #-o I thought it had the worlds biggest S-7 coolant radiator, thanks for educating me on it being the intercooler!

My big question is, when you're not climbing out at 2,000 fpm at full gross (and then some probably) and you're puttering around at the speed God meant us to fly at, the 80's and 90's, the usual S-7 cruise, how will the fuel burn compare to what we see with our stock engines?

What I expect to hear is, it's the same, what I REALLY want to hear is it's better, due to better combustion efficiency or less intake losses or something like that. Let's face it, we spend a lot more time cruising then blasting off at full throttle. And let me know if the wizard wants to spend a few days (weeks?) in Idaho, Inkom, inside my hangar, to be specific.

A couple more pictures of the Douglas engine install in their S-7, I don't know if this was before or after your install.ImageImage

Man, it's pretty obvious what a blackmagic badass JMillz is ---but what's unique is he's also a freaking fantastic person in general. <there's no teary-eye emoticon>
I'll just let the video speak, but I look forward to being a JMilless groupie and hope to be a part of more experiments.

This has nothing to do with the turbo going on in Douglas, Wyoming Mr Simko. Similar wizardry, but different. We will just have to have an aerocross race someday...It's been a privileged to have glimpses into both worlds. Airplanes are fuuukin cool.

Thanks Jeremy for sticking it out with my project and using your priceless skills on my cow-crapliness.

You got that right. When I look at how certified aircraft for private use are crippled by the FAA, and held back to 1940's technology and equipment through the insane 337 and STC process, the only hope out there is the experimental guys trying new stuff.

I've been reading the 8.50 tire thread for the C170/180's... Not legal because the 8.50's are 6 ply, not 4 ply??? Gimme a f**king break. No wonder Cessna and other "big" manufacturers can't sell a piston airplane anymore. I bought new tires for my Ford F-150 the other day at Costco. I can just imagine having to get a federal inspector sign them off in my truck's logbook.

The one in the video is a Garrett... Looks exactly like the turbo that was on my stock 914 but thats about all that looks the same as my 914. Very cool!

Re: My new project, turbo Rotax

Hey Mongo I got another question ,if you please. Actually I probably have about 50. but..

It seems to me a waste going through all the trouble and expense dumbing down a 912s for the turbo.
Wouldn't it be better to start with the cheaper 912 80hp? and just increase the boost.
