My new weird plane- Slats

Hey fellas.

Thought I would share a little enthusiasm. I just picked up my new plane. After selling my J3, I wanted to buy an S7 in the worst way. Couldn't quite do the $40k + thing, so I opted on this weird thing. Its the Preceptor Stol King. I flew it back from Virginia to my home. 700+ miles. Its in the shop now getting ABW's, and intercom, radio, baggage access, and new Lexan. Looking forward to playing with her. I played with the stall, flap/no flap. ( It breaks at 24 MPH dirty and around 32 clean). Cheap flying. It has the Czech LOM 120 HP engine and purrrs at start up. I am looking forward to mounting some cameras on her.

Wow. Looks like a fun plane. Is it hard to see forward when taxiing? Neat plane! can't wait to see some video's.

What does it cruise at?

Re: My new weird plane- Slats

Its a bit of a challenge to see forward on the ground, prob worse with the ABW. In flight its got good visibility. My cruise seems to be 75-80 MPH indicated @ 2400 RPM.

Re: My new weird plane- Slats

About the same as a Cub?

How tall is that gear? And after you install the AK BW's, how high is the door entry way? Easy to climb in and out?

Life is good. Life is better with wings.

Re: My new weird plane- Slats

That's really cool! Is there a way you can put in the Fieseler Storch style overhanging side windows? Part of the reason they were there on the original Storch may have been so the pilot could lean over to the side and see forward??

You should be able to win a lot of free meals doing STOL contests with that. Congrats!

Re: My new weird plane- Slats

Be cautious going into the rough with that spindly gear, especially with big tires...

Cool looking plane, but I'd be looking for shorter or larger gear legs.

Re: My new weird plane- Slats

Initially, looking at the approach and making the two wheel landing lets me think it could have shorter legs too. Only thing not apparent in the landing is whether it has slower capability yet that might pitch the nose higher still. Then to avoid striking the tail it would require those long legs to match the pitch at touch down. The long gear is necessary in the straight bottomed fuselage Storch line of aircraft to stall the slatted wing in a nose high pitch at touchdown and still have the tires and tail wheel reach the ground all at the same time for slowest landing.

Never seen big tires on one, maybe there's a reason, but if you shortened the gear and added it back as tire height it would still be matched and an improvement for rough strips.

One cool looking bird. Can't wait for the pilots report from you. Good luck

Awesome! A real looker too. Just curious...Is that clear/smoked lexan just behind the engine? It looks like one can see right through it. Congrats on the new bird! It looks great!
