Mystery thermo style C-180 breaker

My 54'C-180 instrument panel refurb is almost ready for wire, breakers and switches.
Heading to the avionics shop next week. One question remaining is a mystery thermo style breaker as removed. I can not find reference to it in the parts book or wiring diagram, however I suspect it is part of the pitot heat circuit. The engraved text on this electrical component is Klixon CA-2, Spencer Themostate Division. Anybody out there know more about the function of this mystery component which emerged from behind my old lower instrument panel.
Thanks

My first 61 Int. Harvester Scout 80 had one hidden underneath the dash real similar. When it tripped at night ALL THE LIGHTS WENT OUT, wait a bit and they would come back on. Push the red button too soon and it would say no-no and pop off again.

Yours is a 2 to 40 amp open frame auto-reset. Will try to attach link.
Are there any other numbers on the sides??

Do you remember what was hooked up to it? Could be a generator overload trip.

EDIT-2 Your pitot looks like it should be - AN5812-1 orig. mil.spec. = 120 w min.
Does your panel have a pitot switch label? - hopefully a push - pull Klixon also.

Scanning the net comes up with a range from 10 to 25 amp CB for a pitot. Takes more current at initial warm up.

Gotta be someone here knows more.

Best for now

glacier has it right. Back in 2008 there was discussion on the C170 site about a similar breaker in the same vintage 170's and early 172. It is for the Turn and Bank, and the stall warning.

Re: Mystery thermo style C-180 breaker

There is an auto-reset circuit breaker behind the panel. In my 1953 model 180 it's located adjacent to the master switch. It is wired directly to the master-- when the master is on, the CB is on. No way to manually pull it. It is in the circuit with the turn-and-bank and the stall warning horn.
I have a 1956 owners manual here at home, in it that circuit breaker is shown at the end of wire #22 in figure 38 "electrical wiring diagram", shown on page 6-15 in the "Care-Responsibilities" section.
