Sold my old AT-50 a few years back. It never got along with my Class B base of operation.

Kinda sad-

About sums it up. Sad to see how many companies are no longer able to exist.

Yes you have Bendix/King & Garmin the only 2 games in town. Who's gonna take over who?

Re: Narco: R.I.P.

Narco hasn't been a player in the avionics world for at least 20 and maybe 30 years. They haven't come out with ANYthing new in decades. You can't stay in business just fixing the old stuff that's broke, and not advance.

If there is ANYthing in aviation that has progressed, it's avionics. And, Narco dropped the ball a LONG time ago.

Too bad, but what would you expect?

As to Bendix King and Garmin, where do you think Garmin came from? Two frustrated engineers working for Bendix King couldn't get B/K to enter the panel mount GPS world.....they quit, built a factory right across the road from Bendix King and started Garmin. Good on them.

If you aren't progressing, you're just taking up space.

What MTV said. Narco hasn't really been around for the last 30 years. They were the hot ticket back in the 60's and early 70's. Too bad. Maybe China will buy them and start producing something modern like the "Omingator with Whistle Stop Tuning!!!"

You can always buy one of the TKM Michel slide-in replacements for the Narco nav-coms. I've got one in my panel, it's pretty old, had it refurbed at the TKM factory a couple years ago, cost me just $150 flat rate rebuild.

You can buy a brand new TKM for around $1,700 give or take - less than half the cost of the Bendix-King or Garmin nav-coms.

Re: Narco: R.I.P.

I have a pair of Narco "Cessna replacements", which I bought new 7 years ago, which just slipped into the panel where the old and outdated 360 channel Cessna radios were. They've worked well, other than when they have heated up after a long, long day of flying, when some of the elements of the displays have gone blank. Most of that issue was solved with an avionics fan installation about 3 years ago.

Too bad that Narco has died. They may not have been state of the art in more recent years, but they built good basic avionics for a long, long time.

Re: Narco: R.I.P.

I had a Narco 120/20 comm in my 172 and I never had any complaints. It was old and simple (kind of like me) but I liked it. I guess helicopter pilots like the 120/20's because they had 20 watt output instead of the 8. Thought about keeping it but glad I didn't now.
