Need some 185 on edo’s dimensions (height of wing and tail)

Strange request, but a 185 on Edo 2960s, anyone know the tail height sitting on ground, and the height under the wing? Not easy to do without the same plane there to measure, but debating hangarage and can’t measure it.

This is for 2790s, as I recall it’s the same float but with amphib capability

Not sure if you can figure the numbers you need from this, hope it helps.

Also if it’s a bifold hangar, many can be adjusted to give a little lore clearance at the cost of more wear on the door.

More of a help than you know! Sliding doors, but this is great, as I know I’ll be below that tail height. Door is 12’ so it’ll be tight as all heck, hoping I can make it work by moving the beacon, and ramps for the beaching gear to dip the tail if I have to.

I thought I remembered Greg asking this question a while back when he was designing his hangar.

I will be pulling my 185C on 2960's out of the water this week and should be able to take some measurements once it is sitting on the ramp...

Wonderful, thank you both, my door is 12’, and I’ll have to find a way to deal with it, maybe ramps for the beaching gear to tail dip as I put the rudder under the door (rafters are higher).

Longshot… but just incase anyone has CAP3000Es on their 185… would love to know rudder tip height and underwing clearance (isn’t the only plane in the hangar). Inches matter in this with a 12’ door so figured I should ask, I suspect the CAP3000s will be slightly taller than the EDO 2960s, deeper body to the float I believe.

I'll try to get a number for you. I have a customer running CAPS on his 185.

Ouch! Appreciate it, didn’t think it was going to be a foot taller.

Got an exact number for you, he re-measured today and it's in your favor. Sitting on the ground it is 11'4".

Niiiiiice! That’s a big deal, as it means I could squeak it in the current hangar. Really appreciate that, just to be clear this is the CAP 3000s equipped machine?

Yes, it's a 185 on CAPs.

As promised, the 185 is out of the water...

Image

Height under the wing near the wing root is 102.75 inches

Image

Height under the wing at the tip is 110 inches (with Flint tips so no droop)

Image

Image

Height to the top middle of the rudder is 142.5 inches (Aero LED beacon adds about 2.5 to 3 inches I would guess)

Hope this helps.

Does it ever, thank you Henny, and beautiful plane and hangar you have there. I can promise you this will be useful to more than just myself.

Somebody will find this when they have the same problem I have; a small hangar with more than one plane in it. Tough to say what can be squeeked into a 12’ door until you measure it.

Aerocet just got back to me on the heights of their equipment, figured I should add for posterity,

“The tail height of the 185 on 3400 amphibs is 13’ 8” and on the 3500’s is 13’2”.”

Finding all sorts of variation, wonder if different eras of Aerocets have different rigging. Just measured one myself at Fort Langley, at a tail height of 12’2 too the top of the rudder and 12’6” to the top of the beacon.
