Nice! I'm jealous!

They have the Mexican Maule, and now the Kenyan Maule. Both good options if ya can't afford the real thing.

Maybe Bushwheel can send him some 31's, that might help.

Re: new backcountry aircraft

This is a very impressive aircraft indeed. As a followup to Barnstormers suggestions regarding tires, I recommend very large bush wheels for the mains and a very small tiny nose wheel up front, al of which will tip the fuselage forwards and enable the aircraft to roll downhill during takeoff.

Also, given that Kenya is below the equator in the Southern Hemisphere, I believe the prop was rotating incorrectly in the opposite direction. Fighting coriolis forces can significantly impact prop efficiency, which is why we don't see many propeller aircraft at the South Pole.

Finally given the number of wings it has, perhaps two or three vertical stabs such as on the Bamboo Bomber or the Super Connie would be worth considering, along with iron vg's.

Will this jewel of aviation engineering be available for inspection at Oshkosh 2014? Will a helicopter or twin engine soon follow ? We can only hope and pray.

Yeah as funny as it is, it does show how truly lucky all of us are! This guy can only dream to fly, while most of us just have to drive down to the airport and open the hanger. We need to get this guy a job at CubCrafters!

Re: new backcountry aircraft

One has to give this guy some credit. his design if perfected with a adequate prop engine combo. and lightened up a it might just make a decent preforming airplane. but just saying weight 800? kg that is like 1760 lbs it is way to heavy.

Re: new backcountry aircraft

Sounds to me he's got the same grit and determination you saw in guys like Benny Howard, Jack Northrop and Charles Lindbergh! Think of the inspiration he would find, and the friends he'd make, from a trip to Oshkosh!

Keep following your dream, Gabriel! =D>

Re: new backcountry aircraft

If I was a rich guy, I'd make arrangements for someone to track that dude down. Then see if he could get a passport and a visa, that he wasn't a terrorist or something. Then I'd arrange for him to fly round trip to Oshkosh and a place to stay while there. He earned it.

Then I would do some kind of documentary or reality tv show on his reactions and his experience, and I would make more money then he cost me, that is why I theoretically got rich :D If some one with the organizational skills got behind that idea I'd cough up 50 bucks in a heartbeat. I wonder is EAA, Av Web, and other organizations could pull that off? It'd be simpler to be rich and just make it happen, maybe Harrison Ford!

Re: new backcountry aircraft

This was back in 2010, I believe, and sparked some discussion and support on the EAA forums.

Does anyone know if he ever got in touch with some of these helpful EAAers, or was even able to come to Oshkosh?

Re: new backcountry aircraft

Whoa - what a dreamer! I have to tip my hat to this guy, but given his complete lack of training and dubious engineering, I hope for his sake that this particular design doesn't ever get more than a few feet off of the ground. The idea of connecting him to a knowledge base and some exposure to lighter (and stronger) construction techniques as well as some basic flight training could nudge his dreams into reality and save his life as well. A lot of the early birdmen died pursuing the dream of flight. There is no reason to repeat deadly mistakes that were made long ago.

My hat is off to the guy... Right on for innovating!

I just hope he doesn't try it again!
