"... and one day the ax just fell, so I will drift down to New Orleans" - later this month.
No more pipelines for me to patrol. This video is old, but was worth one last look:

Johnny,
Are you ready to retire? Is there any other aerial surveying work to be done aside from the pipeline work?

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”
Ha ha, I saw a plane just the other day flying "like I do", I thought. That is, low..... and then I realized he was flying the big nat. gas pipeline that goes through the valley below me. From the outside it seems like a pretty good flying gig, more fun then flying for the airlines anyway. Hope you get another.

John,
Sorry to hear about that axe but I know it won't keep a good pilot down. You have brought a lot of good things to this site and hope that doesn't change. Good luck to you hunting down in New Orleans. Watch out for those red lights. Don't want to hear no House of the Risin' Sun background on your next video.

Lynn Sanderson (Dirtstrip) passed away from natural causes in May 2013. He was a great contributor and will be missed dearly.

Have as much Fun as is Safe, and Keep SMILIN! GT,
I think you have an alternate career as an aerial photographer. Some of those shots are terrific! Some, I'm amazed that you weren't intercepted by some Blackhawk. But the stories that you could put together to caption them, everything from comedy to tragedy and in between. Seriously, you have the makings of a terrific coffee-table book there.

+ 2 for the coffee table book.
I can think of a few folks that'd be a splendid gift for.
Seriously.
