Information and discussion about seaplanes, float planes, and water operations.
Hi Cary
I don't understand either?
I have had 2 experienced float pilots tell me not to go anywhere near a 182 on floats
Can't understand why it should be much different than a 180?
Or at least much better than a 172 equally loaded
Looking for experience or a logical answer
Dave

Huh, I'm very curious about their reasons for this as well. I'm a very high time float pilot who has not heard anything negative about 182 on floats. Floated 182 are somewhat rare in the Seattle area but still...
I also own a 182E (smaller stab) which will be going on floats next summer (EDO 2870) and none of my research has yielded negative feedback on this configuration. Anyone here have some real experience with this or similar aircraft?

Well since I don't have the experience of thousands of float hours I took one of my pilot friends with me to test fly the old 182 on edos yesterday
1/2 tanks
525lbs people
15 degrees and slight breeze
Plane performed beautifully
On step as power applied
Under 20 seconds off the water
600 fpm climb
Seemed like the 182 made a pretty good floatplane
After all the looking I think this plane will fill the mission beautifully

Well that sounds encouraging, good times!
