New trend in Trikes, STOL, tundra tires and 7" of suspension

I'm not saying BCP is going to be over run with new members flying trikes, but Evolution Trikes (USA designed and built) has three offerings, two of which are STOL with tundra tires. The Revo is their flagship 110 mph speedster, but two years ago they introduced the REV which instead of the 60 mph touch down speed of the Revo, does it at less than 1/2 that speed. On April 4th at Sun N Fun they unveiled the Revolt with 7" of suspension travel, 22" tundra tires and STOL wing.

I bought the REV last month.

Awesome Bob!! As long as your getting up and out, what else matters? I'd love to get into some 'bugs in the teeth flying someday...

How much do they run?

Starting with my legal 103 (even with the tundra tires) $20K to $26K depending on options. I do have a radio, strobes, lithium battery and lights.

Strobes are so bright when flashed on, almost conceals the green running light.

The new one that was just introduced (Revolt) $39K with 582 $49K with 100 hp 912.

The Revo can break $100K with fuel injected 912 and a lot of options.

At the Ultra Light strip at OSH, I've seen something akin to those, with fat tires for rough strips. I've never had any interest in flying an Ultra Light, but they're fun to watch.

Cary,

They are a vast improvement over the Mac10's my fellow hang glider buddies started using 40 years ago. Still foot launched, rate of climb not even in the 3 digit range. The REV with almost 4 times the power and a 500 fpm rate of climb at gross which is 100 lbs heavier than mine, I think of it like a single seat LSA without the paperwork, annuals, registration, insurance or license. Plus here in New Mexico, there is a rather social group of trike pilots who have enclosed trailers that enjoy new areas to fly. My hangar can accommodate (5) trikes in ready to fly configuration and I had my neighbor and his tractor clear an area next to my hangar for (5) 45' truck/trailer combos for visiting pilots.

That hanger picture pretty well says it all. Layed back with fat tired trike in front, hot rod in the back and a half empty jug of moonshine on the floor close to the chair. Looks like life is good down your way.

Full disclosure, the half empty jug is Walmart's $0.88 drinking water. The hot rod is just that, 1923 Track-T with a 427, Tremec 5 speed and Jag IRS, tipping the scales at 1790 lbs. The red car is a Cadillac CTS-V, one of a 194 made for 2011 with a 6 speed stick, yep a Caddy with a clutch.

Ahhh, Hot Rods and muscle cars, my first true passion before airplanes. Sweet looking rod...like to see a 427 SOCH engine in it. ;) But I am guessing its a Chebbie motor. I have a 1959 Corvette that I have owned for over 30 years. It used to be my everyday driver. I really need to get it back on the road one of these days.

I think a 427 SOHC would fetch more than my entire ride. Your correct on a bored and stroked sbc, Scott Shafiroff built Dart block producing 526 hp at 5700 rpm. Also it has been on the road for over 30 years, 3 totally different engines and a Muncie 4 speed from a '63 Corvette before the much higher torque rated Tremec.

Nice to run into a fellow motorhead here on BCP. Here is a ride from 30+ years back with a real 427 side oiler. No grey in my beard back then.

Gear head also... building this with a friend... 500HP+ small block Chevy with Richmond 6 speed manual...

Not much into ultralights but those trikes do look like a lot of fun...

From the looks of your build, you are serious about performance and like me, not much into the "Show and Shine" circuit. I mounted my engine so low in the frame rails I'm guessing my CG is about spindle height. Great for cornering, lousy in oil pan to road clearance.

BTW, any thread that I start I have no issues with topic drift. In this case I'm getting to know the gearheads here.

The REV in the hands of a much better pilot than myself. But since I live in the back of my hangar I hope to get a lot of practice.

Trikes are awesome! I had some Air Creation trikes and an Anteres trike some time back, love trikes!

I sure won't be doing wing overs that close to the deck. Didn't do it when I was much younger either.

Bob, the video shows a great controlled decent and landing with the engine off. Very safe apparently if the fan quits.

The website shows 2 BRS parachutes as options... would that just be for people wanting a higher comfort level?

I guess so. When flying my hang glider I had a hand deployed chute on my harness. It's the yellow pouch in front of my stomach.

Looks like a hoot and a half. I am unfamiliar with the type so I have a question, other than being of tricycle configuration, how does one manipulate the vehicle for crosswinds?
