Here’s another first video after completing the IO-370 swap on my 170B , had some issues with my audio cord for headset audio, but got some decent footage

Yes, admittedly I was slacking on the details to alot of it. I was full fuel, solo, around 1800lbs, and field elevation is only 500ft here, I didn't record the DA but it was a nice cool day, so all things helping for sure. I have the Sportsman stol kit, 29" bushwheels, (VGs are going on when I get some time). I just completed the engine break-in phase and am hoping to get some different stats with heavier payloads to get more info. I wish I knew where the shirt came from, a friend at the airport gave it to me, he had a 170 back in the day. I'm sure it came from an airshow in the 90's..SmokeyTheBear wrote:What a rocket ship! Maybe I missed it but you never mention how heavy you are and what the DA is. Would be helpful to help understand your performance figures. You also don't mention if you have wing mods?
Most importantly where do I get that dope Cessna 170 Sweatshirt you are rocking in the thumbnail?!?
mtv wrote:A suggestion for anyone considering one of these conversions: Retain the fuel manual primer. Without it, if your battery is dead, you can’t start that engine.
You could carry a jump pack, of course, but those can die over time if not maintained too.
A while back, I was scheduled to do a flight review in one of these. Battery dead. Owner said oh well, we can re schedule. I pointed to the manual primer, which he operated, I got out and propped it, and we got the FR done.

I assume the IO370 its heaver than an O360? Do you have ballast on the rear?

Their primary limitation is fuel, but in the Lower 48 there’s lots of gas stops.
The IO 390 Lyc is an angle valve engine, and they are all equipped with mass balancers on the crank….30 to 35 pounds heavier than an O-360 or parallel valve IO 360.
Have fun with that thing. What’s your empty weight?

Thanks for the additional info. I only ask because the winter vs summer performance difference in my stock 170 is pretty comical. Solo and light on a 30 degree morning and I start thinking I can squeeze into places I shouldn't haha.
Bummer about the shirt. When you become Youtube famous you can make a run of them!!

I met Dave Stoots at the Airmen show a few years back. What a character. I wanted to just casually BS by asking a few questions about the STC but he’s…how to put it? A little aggressive in conversationHe set me straight on any misconceptions I had about anything.
