Re: New Zulu??

I have to say it sounds like a nice headset. They say the controller is large. Has anyone seen a photo of it?

Re: New Zulu??

I stopped looking at photos of it once I saw the price tag. Hovering right around $1000.

Re: New Zulu??

If'n yer hearing is great, most anything will do. If not, it's money well spent. I don't have much traffic around here, but when someone DOES come on, it's good to be able to understand their TX.

Re: New Zulu??

I have a zulu 1 and bought the wife a zuly 2. Both very nice, and controllers are smaller than the bose from what I have seen. Not sure about the new ones though.

Re: New Zulu??

The new ones sound very interesting but not sure I am willing to give up my Zulu 1 to upgrade to the new version I guess I can get 500 Through the trade up program but don't think that is a fair trade But I suppose better than nothing

Re: New Zulu??

Also just curious has anybody tried one of the Sahara headsets thinking about getting that for a copilot spot But also don't want to step down a whole bunch if the difference is quite substantial.
Would love to know how they compare to each other

Re: New Zulu??

I have a Zulu 1 and I have liked it. Lightspeed customer service is great, too. Earlier this year I got to try the new Bose, the Zulu 2 and the New Senheiser S-1 digital, all back to back in a noisy environment. If I were shopping for a new headset (and maybe even if I'm not, because at my age any help I can give the ears is good) I would buy the Senheiser without a second thought, the passive and active noise attenuation is just that much better.

My 2 cents

Re: New Zulu??

Has anyone tried the new Lightspeed yet?

I'm in the market for a new headset. The Zulu 2"s are going for $800 right now and the PFX is a whopping $1100  . I really don't want an Iphone App for my headset. Is it really that much better?

My Hearing sucks from too much time around helicopter transmissions and turbine engines. Im willing to spend some money to protect my ears but not for wow gadgets.

What do you guys think?

Re: New Zulu??

I tried the new Zulu at OSH. No doubt it's quieter. I have no plans to upgrade from my Zulu2 though.

Re: New Zulu??

I also tried them at Osh. Was def better than the Zulu 2s. If they have a good upgrade program (willing to buy back my 2's) I might consider upgrading

Agreed. I've been flying with the S1 for the past year. Did a side by side against Bose and the S1 fidelity, especially listening to music, is much better.

Re: New Zulu??

Damn it, I forget they have historically done upgrade pricing. Now I might have to consider it. :-(

Re: New Zulu??

It sounds like those of you who have tried the new PFX would spend the $300 extra for the latest and greatest. Wow $1100 is a lot to swallow for a headset. But then again thats only 183 gallons of avgas.

If I'm in even a moderately quiet room I can easily hear the results of not taking care of my hearing (tinnitus). If I'm in a loud room I find it hard to pick out conversations from noise. I'm too young for this, but I didn't take care of my hearing.

$300 is a lot. $1,100 is a lot more.

Or, put differently, I increase my cost per hour of flying by $1-3 dollars while being able to hear longer into my old age.

This one is an easy decision for me. I hope some of the young guys will learn lessons from my example instead of teaching themselves through experience. If not the $1,100 Lightspeed PFX, I think it's a foolish decision to not get a 2nd generation (or newer) ANR headset from *somebody*.

Humans are generally pretty bad at making long term decisions. It's like laptops. I will never understand why people try to get the cheapest laptop they can get away with instead of spending more and getting one that "just works". We're talking about something like 10 cents to 35 cents a day price difference for devices that people depend on. That's about the cost of a cup of coffee to get something great instead of something that drives you nuts and keeps you waiting whenever you click the mouse. Hell, the entire amortized cost of a laptop is less than a drink at starbucks and a third the price of a beer at the restaurant.

That, however, is a rant for a different forum. :-)

Re: New Zulu??

Agreed, what will it cost you down the road Buy the headset it will be cheaper and you'll get more enjoyment than the hearing aid you will buy when you are older
