No Longer "MY Plane". It Is Now "OUR Plane"!

Does anybody have an ideal what most straight tail 182's are selling for today (2014)?

I know there are many variables involved in a selling price. But I'm most interested in knowing what a 182 with the following spec's should sell for or be listed at.

4000-6000 Total Airframe Hours
New to Low Time Stock 470 Engine or a Pponk upgrade
Paint around an 8 out of 10
Interior in excellent condition
Basic VFR Panel with newer radio and transponder
Leading Edge Stol kit
Landis front fork with 850's all around
Baggage compartment extension
Windows in excellent condition

The reason I ask is that I have a very good friend that is highly interested in going in on my plane and he's about the only few people I would even consider doing this with. We are in the talking stage right now and like me, he has been away from flying for a about 4 years and out of touch with airplane pricing.

I'm pretty sure we are going to agree on a buy in price of at least an overhauled prop and stock 470 engine and a few other items to get the plane airworthy. I'm just curious if this amount will come close to half of what the value of the plane will or should be when all is done and we go flying. (if that makes sense) And we haven't ruled out a Pponk just yet. We are only talking about $7K more for the Pponk upgrade.

I appreciate your help and Thanks for your thoughts!

Re: What are Straight Tail 182's Selling For??

My 56 has 300 on overhaul, Sportsman STOL, jump seats, ext baggage, 600x6 nose (310 fork) 700 on mains, 8/10 paint, 8/10 interior, old radios. I paid 40K then put on sportsman and jump seats two years ago. Think it should be worth 45 now.

If the new medical law goes through the prices will go up as there will be more folks in the marketplace.

I know your plane and if it had a newly overhauled engine and prop it would be worth, I think about 50K. So deduct about 30 K so that make it worth 20K. Sad story isn't it. Get yours running and sell it for 38K and look for a replacement.

Thanks Tim!! My plan is to keep my 182 for a while. The only thing I have interest to switch to right now is a Scout. But that's not going to happen for a very long time. It could happen after about 5 years if gold stays at acceptable levels I keep working lots of overtime

Same thing Im seeing. 38-40k for average plane and 45-47 for one with goodies. There are some 55K planes that have been in TAP for 2 years!!!

Good luck

Well..... My other plan is to cut out the half pound bacon cheeseburgers and hit the gym soon!!!

Actually, the Scout has lots of room for us well rounded folks. The back seat is pretty comfy, too.

"2 years!!"??? Wow! I guess there's people that have or need to sell a plane versus people that have spouses that want them to sell a plane? LOL

There are three different prices on everything that is fun. "It is on the market" "Like to sell" and "Need to sell"

Pat, i think Tim is right on with the 50K value of ur bird when it is flyin' so...

i say have your new partner kick in his 25K and get her flying...!

your straight-tail is a better plane that a scout husky or whatever.....!

ive done a few antique m/c projects like this and it always worked out great for all involved....would be a blast to see u in the back-country this year...!

I'm pretty sure that's about where we are going to meet. He's keen on paying whatever it takes to get her flying, too.

I'm sure he wants to remain silent, but the person I'm talking about is "The Beast From the East" (you should know who that is since you've been around MX). And he's supper anal about all his stuff he owns and wants to keep stuff perfect. Plus, when it comes time to sell stuff, he try's to get top dollar. That's why he's about the only person I'll do this with. Because I know he'll treat our plane with great respect. Probably way better than me. LOL

And yes..... The plan is to be in the Backcountry this summer!!! And a few trips to Cody a year. I'll make Idaho Falls a pit stop since it's about half way in between.

If I was still struggling bad like I was the beginning of the year, more than likely, it would be yours! Before I got this new mining job, I almost was going to just get rid of it as is. That $25K would come in handy today even though it would be a huge lose from when I purchased the plane for $60K in 2007.

Pat I'd say your 182 would book 40-45 k .If you add the p.ponk motor about 50 k .

Should work out great. He's flown the plane a bunch of times and has lots of BC TW time when he had a 180 and a Supercub. Both of those planes he kept in near perfect condition.
