Re: What are Straight Tail 182's Selling For??

Sounds exactly like my 58 182 that I sold five years ago for $60k, including extended baggage, STOL, Landis nose fork and 600 hrs smoh. That is a pretty acceptable cost for such a 182 up here in Alaska.

It was a great airplane.

Re: What are Straight Tail 182's Selling For??

Hello... Long time no talk. Just been busy with my new job and didn't feel I had much to contribute these days (I got tired of being a bench flyer!!).

Anyway, just a short update if anybody is interested. I agreed to share my 1958 182 with a good friend and for a buy in, he is going to do an engine and prop overhaul and get the plane in annual. This is planned to happen very soon, so both him and I will be flying our Skylane soon.

I'm looking forward to catching up with some of you in the near future and I plan to get around the Idaho Backcountry next summer! And getting to fly around northern/northeast Nevada, too.

Thanks guys! I'm sure I'll be contributing some good stuff to the " Where did you fly to today" thread soon and updates on Shortfield.com

And Cory...... I won't be able to control my In N Out Burger addiction. So I'm sure a trip to Ogden a few times will be in short order!! (Depending on gas money available). LOL

Pat
If you are gonna keep that plane, Doing the Pponk should be a no brainer, 2000 TBO, 45 more HP, smooth, never ending grin=Priceless.
personally, I think it is the best mod you can do for that plane. It will be good to have ya back

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

Thanks Gary! Yeah, we went back and forth on the Pponk idea. After considering our typical missions and budget, we decided stock overhaul is best for now. I'm also pretty much letting my partner do whatever he wants to get the plane flying again. He's a very meticulous and perfectionist type person and when all said and done, this will be one sweet Skylane.

If I can, I'll post some rebuild pictures like others have done recently.

Pat - pponk is good idea but if money might be a issue I'd look at Norland STC , from Canada . PPonk is great but he wants you to buy one of his 3 blade props at 6-8 grand . With Norland keep you same prop and get 260 HP. Kinsley exhaust system will add another 10-15 HP over stock . Balancing airflow to cylinders will add another 10--20 percent . Good your finally going to get it flying again ~~ PS I still have extra engines . As to value flying as is I'd say 35-40 k , new overhaul engine & prop closer to 50 k or more. Just flew a 57 182 back across country ( sweet flying with stec 30 autopilot ) 400 hr engine that traded for under 45 k.

Re: No Longer "MY Plane". It Is Now "OUR Plane"!

Thanks for that info, Bill. The new partner is going to oversee and assist with the stock overhaul by a very trusted mechanic at Caldwell. My partner is very meticulous and it will be done right with all new baffles, tubes, etc. She'll be one sweet bird when complete.

I also was drooling over Joe Dorys 180 all weekend and have a few new things we may do (just little things).

LOL! True.... JT and I was already talking about a panel upgrade. Something very simple and light like Joe's. but won't happen for a while. We just want to get it flying and have some fun for a while.

Great to see you at Austin, Gary!
