North to Alaska

Well the Roundup is over (yea yea I'll get the results posted this weekend).

Plan on heading up to my new place in Alaska in the SQ2 in a couple of weeks. Here is my route plan. First night in Fort Morgan CO (KFMM) I'm thinking. Then maybe the next night in Miles City MT (KMLS) to I change my oil. Then onwards. Anyone along my route? Route comments appreciated. Can't wait to get started.

keep them flying!

Re: North to Alaska

I suggest you stop in Springbank, CYBW and clear customs. Lowers the drama significantly. CYQL, Lethbridge is an option, but I heard something about fees there that causes me to recommend Springbank.

I have a CanPass so was planning on using Milk River CEW5 as my airport of entry. Any experience there?

Re: North to Alaska

Barnstormer,

You are welcome to stop and overnight at our place in Ft Nelson. CBL3, no fuel, but a spare room or lots of space to camp, whichever your preference.

We also have a place available on the Carcross, Yukon airport, south of Whitehorse. Again no fuel, but much more welcoming for camping than Whitehorse.

Hope to get to meet you.

Phil,

We're headed north to our cabin in Atlin (CYSQ) perhaps the end of next week depending on weather and a few other obligations. Depending on your timing, we have space there. Fuel available at Atlin airport, typically cheaper than Whitehorse. Send me a PM if you're interested.

Phil, if you are coming through Alberta hit me up. Have a place to stay if you need close to Grande Prairie (CYQU).

Re: North to Alaska

No experience with Milk River. I ought to apply for CanPass. That looks like it could be handy!

Re: North to Alaska

Phil,

Fort Morgan is only an hour east of me here in Boulder at SQ speeds (30 minutes at 185 speed). Up until today I'd have had a spare hangar for you but alas no more. I can put you up for the night here in Boulder. Ain't much going on in Fort Morgan - field is pretty far from town and I don't believe they have a crew car. I know it's your first day on the road - but if you want to take in some fishin' let me know.

Phil,

Divert a little west and change your oil here in BZN. Bunk space or at least I can get rid of the used oil free if you need to press on. Go up the east side of the mountains from here into Alberta.

Re: North to Alaska

Hey Phil,

Guess I will be a couple weeks behind you though i'm headed for Skagway. If the weather drives you west of the rockys on the way up, I will still be in Escalante (1L7), fuel, camping, pilot lounge big enough to sleep over in, bet I can get you in a hanger too.

I agree with Soy--not much at Fort Morgan. I'd sure recommend taking him up on his hospitality offer. If for some reason that doesn't work out, then we don't have extra room, but if you landed at Fort Collins-Loveland (now just this last week renamed Northern Colorado Regional Airport), I'd be happy to pick you up and take you to a motel and return you to the airport the next morning--might even buy you dinner!

Thanks Cary, appreciate that. Too many folks to see, not enough time. ;-)

Zane flew over my place yesterday. Seems like everyone is up there but me. ;-)
