Northern Colorado Super Cub Crash

Timnath actually, just a mile or so north of my dad's strip (65CO). Article says he was trying to land on an unpaved strip on his property, but we've never noticed a strip up there. Looks more like he was attempting to land north on the tree lined driveway, but who knows. Power lines on the east/west road (county rd 40) just to the south, wreckage just off the driveway about 50 yards north of the road. Kind of a strange deal; to the north and west of there is nothing but nice big plowed fields. Glad he's okay, sad about the Super Cub though.

Humor may not make the world go around, but it certainly cheers up the process... :)
With clothing, the opposite of NOMEX is polypro (polypropylene cloth and fleece).

Re: Northern Colorado Super Cub Crash

I fly over your Dad's place a lot, and I drive by every time I go from FtC to my hangar at GXY--keep thinking of dropping by and asking permission to land there some time. But likewise, I've not noticed any strips immediately north of his. There are a number of strips farther north, and I used keep my LRB at one of them, Russ Reed's (1CD1) between Wellington and Nunn.

When I saw the pix in the FtC paper, I wasn't sure it was a Super Cub--still not sure--thought it might be a Citabria. It's a little early for the NTSB factual report. But in any event, the pilot appeared to be pretty fortunate--airplane is sure crumpled.

The Greeley paper had better pictures than the Coloradoan did. Check out the link in my first post and go to the last picture. It's a more head on view, pretty sure it's a Super Cub.

As for landing at 65CO, I know he wouldn't mind, but you could drop in to the factory or the house behind the factory if it's after hours if you want to make sure. His contact info is on AirNav.

Edited to add: Super Cub wrapped around a tree :(
