o470 vs o550 resale value difference opinions on 182P?
Technical and practical discussion about specific aircraft types such as Cessna 180, Maule M7, et al. Please read and search carefully before posting, as many popular topics have already been discussed.
I'm trying to get a swagger on what type of valuation differences you see in the resale market for mid-upper range mid-70s 182Ps based on having a freshly rebuilt o-470 low time engine and having the same in a freshly rebuilt o-550 tx skyways conversion.
Does anyone have any experience or data they are able to share? Book value assigns a flat 5k difference between motor types, and the time is treated the same, but I'm not sure that really reflects the marketplace.
To be specific, if I knew a good value of a particular 182P was 80k, what would the o550 version be worth of the same plane on resale?

I'm doing a little guessing, but I'm thinking that it wouldn't make much difference--but the higher powered airplane, all else being equal, would sell more quickly than the lower powered one. That comes from only one sale that I am familiar with, a 68 Skylane with a 300hp 550 in it. It was very, very clean, easily a 10/10 on the outside and a 9/10 on the inside, but it had an outdated but serviceable panel. It sold within a couple of weeks on the market at what most would call a premium price commensurate with the condition of the airplane. Its owner and I both felt that it would sit for awhile, due to its age and outdated panel and the high asking price, but it didn't. I'm also thinking that this location, the high mountain West where more power is really desirable, had something to do with it.

Of course a freshly overhauled 550ed bird is going to sell for more, I'd guess 10k more atleast, you're buying quite a bit more plane.
