Despite the somber events of Friday, the fly-in was successful in many ways. New friends were made, friends who only see each other only once a year were reunited, the weather was great (albeit hot), and the raffle raised over $3,300 in funds for the RAF and IAF.
Early start from Portland:

Later in the weekend there was a 5nm TFR centered around Mt Hood, apparently for a lost climber search.

Hugging the south edge of the Eagle Cap wilderness, absolutely stunning.

Our arrival into Johnson Creek was a stressful and saddening one. Life flight helis were inbound just behind me, while I tried to make our arrival as safe as I could without getting in their way.

Good showing on Saturday. Several people had been locked out of the closed airport since Friday.

This Dornier 27 showed up. Impressive hauling capability. Equipped with a GO-480 apparently, like the Helio Courier.

4pm or so... no reason to be flying.

So we drove into town for ice and beer and stopped to check out the East fork of the South fork of the Salmon.

It cools off pretty quickly when the sun goes behind the hills, so pants and long sleeves shirts come out. It was quite warm even through the night this year though, nearly t-shirt weather.

The early evening here can be sublime.

Deadstick Steve made it over with his newly built Super STOL.

The Dornier landing.

Lot of this going on-- families and friends eating dinner and visiting. Live2aviate and his Cessna 205.

The Adventures on the Fly cast and crew making the rounds, filming for their next episode. They do love to ham it up.

The potluck was massively successful as always. Thanks to everyone who chipped in, especially M6RV6 and Wilgabeast who cooked burgers, and RobertC and M6RV6 who made a ton of ice cream.

Sunday morning, just prior to departure for home.

Couldn't resist stopping at Minam lodge and Red's Horse Ranch while I was over at this end of the state. Airstrips are in great condition.

Came home to insanely hot temps (for NW Oregon people) so we went for a canoe paddle and promptly capsized. It felt good...
It was wonderful seeing old friends and making new ones. Til next time...
