The Good Lord does not deduct those days from our alloted quota, spent fishing, flying or with our Grandchildren.......
Those are some really cool planes,Looks like a really great airfield....one can only hope people will continue to want to fly as much as that guy now that all has changed in the world of flying.I know I do. Thinking about flying occupies most of my thoughts most of the day and most of my nights.................

Rhinebeck is about 30 miles from my old stomping grounds and my son lives there. For those of you who have never heard of it and if you are ever back there it is definitely worth a visit. They put on a show every weekend for the public. Most of the planes fly and they have a great static display of tanks and old world war 1 stuff. THe flying farmer guy does a act where he volunteers to go for a ride with the pilot who steps out of the plane momentarily and then the farmer flies off and puts on a great show. He really puts that cub through its paces....

I stopped by there on our way to Martha's Vineyard. We were there like on Wednesday and we had tickets for a Red Sox baseball game on Fri. So we couldn't wait for the airshow. I was bummed out. I did poke around the museum and looked at the Spirit of St. Louis they were building. I sure would of loved to be there on the weekend.

skybobb did you land at Rhinebeck?Years ago they would let only taildraggers land.Others would land at nearby Skypark(closed) and be taken over by car.
A friend recently told how they would fly to Rhinebeck and attack the airfield with flour bombs and the Rhinebeck guys would sortie in the WWI aircraft and chase them away. They did this on weekends during the airshow. It was all pre-arranged for the crowds entertainment.

Sorry to say but I was in our car on that trip. No, I read about the place in a book named "The Cannibal Queen" by Steven Coonts. Where he flew to all of the states in a yellow Stearman. The cannibal Queen was the name of the plane as he had just gotten it restored and did a ground loop in it and tore it up quite badly. He said that plane could bit you right in the A$$, thus the name Cannibal Queen. He talked about landing there. Bob

Read today that a pilot was
killed over the weekend during a mock dogfight in a biplane at Old Rhinebeck.

Thats horrible. I went to that airshow back in '78 when we lived in Poughkeepsie when I was in grade school. I've never forgot how cool that place is and if I ever get back to NY for anything I will go again.
