Re: Oshkosh 2013

Something else not to skimp on is your tent. If you live in Texas then you know what a thunderstorm is. Make sure your tent can take the rain and wind loads that a T-storm will subject it to.
Last year's mid-week T-storm leveled many tents. Mine had slight damage, some bent poles, which Big Agnes fixed for me after I returned home (for free--great customer service!). But some tents were irreparable.

As already mentioned don't skimp on the tie-downs.
So far as I know, only one airplane, in the display area, was damaged by the storm, but I'm sure some really rocked. Wisconsin storms, based on my OSH experiences, are typically pretty short but pretty vicious.

So yeah, a good tent and good tie-downs are essential.

We live not far from OSH (from a weather perspective anyway, about 90 minutes west) and concur. Wisconsin, though north, does still get the nasty midwestern summer storms. We had an impressive one last summer that took out about a hundred trees. We're talking a Sun n Fun strength storm on that one. ;-)
