Re: Pacific City State Airport Oregon to CLOSE!!

Sent the following letter - hope it helps in some small way:

-------------------------------

Dear Sirs and Madam,

My name is ____________, and I have learned of a proposal to close the Pacific City Airport, through friends and fellow pilots that live in and own property in Pacific City and Portland. Although I am not a resident of Oregon, I am a frequent visitor for both business and vacation purposes. I understand that there may be budgetary pressures the the Oregon Department of Aviation is experiencing, and I wanted to reach out to you on behalf of a potentially under-represented and under-heard user group of the resource you are considering closing.

I would like to take this opportunity to point out that I routinely travel to Oregon, utilizing both commercial and private aviation means of conveyance. Local airports are a dwindling and vital link to local businesses and economies. I am not in a position to quantify the economic losses of such a move, but I would ask that you make sure and consider this carefully when making policy decisions. In addition, a network of maintained fields is critical to safety of people travelling and living in the area - from providing access to airlifts for medical emergencies, to making fuel and emergency stops a possibility for cross-country travel near the area.

I would implore you to seek to find a resolution to the budget issues that keeps the airport open to the public. This may include selling the property to private owners, but under a conservator-ship that would keep the property open indefinitely as an airfield.

Thank you for your consideration of this matter.

Yeah, was in Santa Barbara for work. Flew through LAX. Oh how I deplore that airport.

That's good news. Was there a decent pilot turnout?

Anti- low pass guy probably subscribes to Flying Magazine and thinks you were doing some jackass flying.

Re: Pacific City State Airport Oregon to CLOSE!!

Inquiring minds want to know...will PC be closed or will it stay open?..or is it too early to tell?
Hell every time we land we do a low pass..especially if the landing is aborted.

Re: Pacific City State Airport Oregon to CLOSE!!

Howdy;
about half dozen of us BCPers were in PC last night. Lots of local people also and other pilots not on this forum. About
80 people at the public hearing. All public comments made were positive. The County Commissioners were all positive and definitely want PC to remain open. Mary from Oregon Pilots Assoc. was there and indicated their support. Suprising how
many people showed up considering the rain was sideways at 35 knots or so.

Where it is at: nothing will happen fast. And it all boils down to the State exposure to Liability risk in the event of a suit.
There will be a bill introduced in the next legislative session which would raise the fuel tax on jet A by 1 and 1/2 cents which
will help the financial situation at OR Dept of Av. ODA appears to be on our side but is under pressure to trim their budgets.

You can call ODA 503-378-2523 and get your name on their e-mail list for updates and their newsletter.

A friend of mine lives on a very nice 2400' grass strip right near my (public) airport. A fair number of us fly in to visit, but the neighbors only gripe when there's some high speed/low altitude shenanigans involved. Those might be fun for the pilot, but generally have the effect of making nearby non-airplane people less airport-friendly which is what you don't need about now. [-X You might want to rethink the "tough shit" attitude, and do your low passes somewhere less objectionable-- maybe give it a whirl at PDX the next time you swing by there? Just saying.....

Did you sell the Maule and get something fast? Or does this guy not know what high speed is?
