Re: Pacific NW seasonal opening fly out

6S6 is a great spot for a fly-in-- there's plenty of room for parking, it's a nice big easy grass strip, and the little town of Powers is about a half hour walk. If we call ahead a few weeks or months (?) the Port of Coquille will bring us out some portable toilets. The only remaining thing needed is water. There's a nice river there but it's a bit of a walk down to it. Oh and firewood, definitely need some firewood.

Lucas Lodge is a gem, but it's a different vibe. They are private owners, the parking isn't quite as big, is sloped, and can be tight as it has openings in the fence that you have to maneuver through. Renting a cabin there would be awesome, but in my opinion it's something to do with a smaller group or when there's fewer people involved. Good stop for breakfast, but it maxes out quickly. Super fun approach.

That area around Agness and the Rogue River is rough! In the summer it can get warm and mixed up in that river canyon, and the terrain is pretty interesting. Be careful.

Let's do 'em all!
We usually kick off the season with a trip to Nehalem Bay on Memorial weekend. More the merrier.

It is a "land at your own risk" situation and of course they don't mind if you stay at the lodge, eat a meal etc.

OK, thanks for the info. I googled Lucas Lodge, and the map image led me to believe it was at Powers. Maybe I need to brush up on my map reading skills

Re: Pacific NW seasonal opening fly out

Ill throw in a vote for Lands Inn. Nehalem Bay Memorial day weekend sounds like a good way to get the flying season started.

Got this off the Lands Inn website.

Welcome to Lands Inn Fly-In Bed & Breakfast & Airport...

Lands Inn Bed & Breakfast Cabin
Lands Inn is a Fly-In Bed and Breakfast Private Airport on 350 acres and is located in Eastern Oregon in Kimberly, Oregon.

We offer a quiet, restful and memorable experience where only the sounds of Mother Nature can be heard.

You can "fly-In", "drive-in", "hike-in" or 'cycle-in' and stay from one to several nights in one of our rustic cabins.

Breakfast can be provided for an additional $10 per person. Tom is famous for his old time family pancake recipe!

We host occasional Saturday Fly-In breakfasts or Fly-In dinners that we schedule during the summer. Bring your Aviation Club or flying friends (must be pre-arranged).

At Lands Inn you can relax and enjoy your days and nights without the daily distractions and interruptions we have all become used to. At Lands Inn there is no cell service, television nor evening lights upon the horizon to impede your view of the Heavens.

Plan a family reunion, a wedding, church groups, cycling event, or any other group activity.

Amenities include:

Amazing starry nights
Wildlife viewing
Pure clean spring fed drinking water
1950's style "Hangar Cafe"
On-site mechanic
Lands Inn is a unique and undiscovered experience you will always remember, so you may want to bookmark this Website as it is the only form of advertising that we do.

Lands Inn has been our "Dream Come True" for over 25 years... so take a step back in time and make Lands Inn the next step to making one of your dreams come true.

All our electricity is solar powered. When you visit Lands In, we will all be in this together and when we use the power up, that's it until the sun rises again.

Cell service is available at the end of the runway if you stand on the picnic bench and face west. There is a land line for emergencies only.

We are open summers from June to September (or until the weather changes).

*Please remember if you are planning on flying into Lands Inn Airport, you will need to fill out our Airport Waiver Form. Each landing requires a new landing form to be submitted.

Re: Pacific NW seasonal opening fly out

My vote goes for Lands Inn since Tom & Carol are most excellent hosts and the whole place is a little more aviation oriented in a sense. The hanger with the cafe/restaurant they have is perfect for group meals and is pretty darn cool to boot. With all of the cabins and plenty of nice grass to camp on people can do either or. Tom is an IA mechanic and specializes in Stinson's. John Day is 28nm away and has 3 courtesy cars. Monument Airport is 15nm away. And there are some backcountry strips (see my uncharted Oregon airstrips thread) in the area that would be great to go out and explore.

I've talked to Tom within the past year, so if people are interested I'd be happy to get the ball rolling.

And Bryan its probably only another 20min in the Mooney  though it wold be pretty cool to see a Mooney land in Agness #-o

That's my Maule when I was there. It is a very cool spot.

Re: Pacific NW seasonal opening fly out

Why not schedule two weekends in a row? Same or different locations. Some could make both fly-outs, some only one, some none. Plus Wx might cancell one or both.
Just an idea.

I don't think 2 weekends are the important part. We don't even know the spot we want to go! Maybe I'll start a thread....Powers Fly in....

Re: Pacific NW seasonal opening fly out

It looks like it has been decided, by the powers that be. Lucas Lodge June 13-15. We are going to go on a jet boat ride from Lucas Lodge upstream, which is the best and most exciting part of
the jet boat run. Some of us have already started making our reservations for cabins. Camping under the wing of your airplane is totally cool. We will arrange for a big campfire each night down by the river. Great hiking trail that follows the river. Plus it's a great place to base out of if you want to go and hit gravel bars etc.
Cheers

Re: Pacific NW seasonal opening fly out

Lands in or Powers both sound fantastic. The one thing that worries me about Agnes is if the weather is poor, it could cause issues with cabin or room rental, perhaps. I don't know for certain so don't quote me on that and please correct if they are totally flexible in that regard.

Did a weekend date get decided or just pencil in both weekends depending on which has better weather?

Just an FYI, planning on a trip to Owyhee memorial day weekendish. Not planning on leaving until Sunday or Monday. There's talk of spending a night or two at Red's horse ranch as well but nothing firm.

Re: Pacific NW seasonal opening fly out

We are not worried about losing money on the rooms if the weathers bad. We will take our chances. If that is a concern for you can sleep under your airplane wing or in a tent. That is totally
cool with Lucas Lodge.

Cheers
