Panel overhaul - Cessna 180

Some time ago, I posted regarding the install of an iPad. The plan of adding one into the panel evolved into a panel overhaul, including a new aluminum panel, relocating some of the instruments to my preference, adding an iPad mini and a Garmin G5 along with the existing Garmin Aera GPS. Along the way, I removed the vacuum system as well. Once all the dust settled, I removed 17 lbs of vacuum equipment out of the airframe.

The project was completed yesterday. Didn't even see any smoke when the master came on. :D Just have to complete the vibration and calibration tests, once it warms up above the -40 weather we have right now.

Seemed like a really bad idea at this point.

Thanks Ian, let me know when you get here. Planning on flying to the cabin next week, if it warms up a little. Nice conditions on the ice for wheel gear.

Nice work! Your new panel looks great. How is your iPad attached to the panel? Did you make the iPad mount yourself?

Thanks Joe. I built a mount out of aluminum and formed a lip on the bottom with a brake, then riveted it to the panel. I used a quality adhesive velcro from the mount to the iPad. Seems like it should work just fine.

Very nice!!!! Evidently that thing in the middle doesn't interfere with the original control "T". This new modern stuff is great!!!

Thank you. The "thing in the middle" is just an iPad mini, mounted onto a formed aluminum plate that I flush riveted onto the panel. There is nothing there to interfere with the T.

Re: Panel overhaul - Cessna 180

My tablet is "centerstack mounted" in my C180 also.
I don't mind at all having the com radio & txp located down below the main panel,
but it's nice to have the GPS up where you can just drop your eyes a little from the view out the front to see it.
It's not as nice as yours, Upnorth, but here's my panel:
