Christmas lights? 110V run from an inverter? Are there good 12V systems?

I carry a Honda 1000W generator. Probably use 1-2 LED light ropes.

Re: UPDATED 9/23/15 6th Annual High Sierra Fly-in 2015 Oct 2

There are a lot of lights out there that use AA batteries. Keep it simple but if the majority takes part it could produce some great photos!

Little update: We have Shooter himself coming from STOL Magazine. We have a representative coming from the General Aviation News and possibly a rep from AOPA! We could have some really great exposure to backcountry flying this year if all goes well and people stay smart!

I am driving into "DeadCow" on Wednesday night. Please use "DeadCow" as your airport designation, not Babylon as some may think, If that is heard over the radio its the very same thing. Just an FYI.

Many have inquired as to what they can do to help. The single biggest thing aside from wearing your brain all weekend is making certain you pack your own garbage out please.

We will have port poties on site (several) and of course the catered meal on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Donations are always accepted but not expected. The other big thing that I also sent out in the email is the 730 am pilot briefs each morning in the common area. Please do try and make them.

As mentioned as well in my email to all of you registered, I have not put out landing locations and degree of difficulties for the sake of liability. Those that can will and those that want to can ask questions and I will give you a good heads up on cool places to go. Honestly if you have never done, I would do the Lake Tahoe lap for certain! Its beautiful. We have so many place to fly from here its really endless. Just be smart and safe!

Our STOL demo and the DRAG RACE is going to be a huge hit. Both will take place on Saturday starting around 1pm. This will allow those flying in on Saturday to get there before the escapades start.

We will have Unicom (122.725) on the lakebed for current winds and weather conditions on the playa. Please refer to your pilot details for radio freqs once you are 5 miles away from DeadCow when flying out. West of 360/180 is 123.45 and East of 360/180 is 123.40. You may also want to monitor these channels when flying in for the first time.

The lakebed is HUGE! The preferred landing is to the NE but that could change if we have any winds. Right traffic is choice to keep it simple. JUST DO NOT FLY OVER CAMPERS!!!

Any questions please dont hesitate to ask.

Looking forward to seeing you!

I'm going with a couple 72 foot strings of solar powered LEDs. Only $17 on Amazon. I got blue and white. I'm going to fly down to Mack Mesa this weekend and test them out!

Ok I got some lights! Mine are not going to be as impressive as the idea pictures you posted Kevin, but I got lights.

Any deals from local FBO's on fuel? Where would you recommend getting fuel? Stead or Nervion? Or is there another place that might sell Mogas?

I'm getting fired up!

Lovelock KLOL has fuel at $4.25/gal

Carson City KCXP also at $4.25/gal

It looks like we have some options, depending on the direction you choose to check out the area.

Not knowing much about desert weather, will this little downpour be a problem for the lakebed??

Re: UPDATED 10/11/15 High Sierra Fly-in 2015 Oct 22-25

So far there was only about .05 inches there. This will only keep down the dust by then. There are thunder storms in the area and a localized downpour might hit there but I doubt it. The campsite is on the side of an alluvial fan and the flow may come up from higher ground but the area affected would not impact any of the planned activities.
I will watch conditions and go out there mid week to confirm. Kevin will be watching close as well and keep us up to date.

Re: UPDATED 10/11/15 High Sierra Fly-in 2015 Oct 22-25

Went for a motorcycle ride today on Dead Cow . The lakebed is firm. It has definitely rained a bit out there lately . It's just fine for airplanes to land on . There was another cell moving through with rain when I left a few hours ago. There are a couple tacky spots out there but overall it's in great shape . I would recommend using caution if you feel the need to land in other areas besides the lakebed as some of the cells that have gone through the area have had some heavy rain associated with them ..... Beautiful day out there today with some really cool low clouds and fog .

Attn: Dead Cow Attendees

They are doing GPS interference testing in the Fallon, NV area this weekend. Don't rely on your GPS in the area.

A couple of years ago I was flying around Death Valley and completely lost my GPS. Garmin ended up replacing the unit after asking me if I was in the Death Valley area when it happened. I got the impression that they knew about it and I wasn't the first person asking what went wrong.

The following link will download the details in a PDF document.

I'm jelly!

My brother's getting married this weekend. That coupled with the fact I can't get any more time off for the next few months is keeping me from it. I hope to make next year!

If you are driving out to HSF and have questions beyond what has been published, PM me.
Lake bed is firm and dry except for any dark places. Kevin is marking out the official runway.
