Kevin- same Question as Oregon Maule- how many hours fuel? Or how many hours of activity etc......not sure what you are thinking for the day.
Looking forward to it!

Re: Sierra Flying Saturday January 7th - 9am KTRK

Hey Guys-

Plan on flying for a few hours. I generally leave with 25-30 gallons (burn 14 an hour). We can always get fuel in Nervino or Susanville. Thinking about doing the North, north circuit. Similar to last weekend. We can nail a bunch of strips around here and then drop into the desert for some low flying fun.

I also like going light but know we have a number of first timers coming so we will be easy on everyone. Strips will be the easier and and longer ones so you carry fuel.

Again, I will be leaving KTRK with 30g and will more than likely stop for a quick 10g somewhere if need be.

So, is this sort of thing open to anybody? I'm in Reno (RTS), fly an RV-9 with big tires (well, big for an RV) and might like to get in on the fun one of these times. Hangar buddy has a Rans S7S and he would come along perhaps as well.

That sounds like a great combination, I've often thought if I decided on a go fast (to me anyway), it would be a RV-9 with larger tires and vg's. Get pictures!

Too far for me and got a cold anyway, I hate flying stuffed up. Tear it up you guys

Well, sorry for this weekend but I've got a brake problem and a couple of other maintenance things. But I will be keeping an eye on the forum and will bring the RV-9 for one of these trips. Looking forward to it!

cheers,

Re: Sierra Flying Saturday January 7th - 9am KTRK

We departed Truckee around 9am. The winds were already strong over the ridges and came down to tree top level around 10:30 or so. Once you were 500' AGL you could feel them. We ran a few of our spots on the North circuit and then dropped into the desert out around Honey lake and then on over to what we call Dead Cow Lake. Winds and weather were great out there and made for some fun low flying. Saw antelope, wild horses and a whole bunch of meth labs. [-X
Everyone found themselves on their way around 1pm. I headed back for Truckee. Got my tail feathers handed to me on the way into KTRK. Made me think about a helmet. At least it was straight down the runway.

Chance- We have not seen your Bulls. Have been looking a lot for them lately.

It was good to have OregonMaule and Gump on the circuit!

Re: Photos Updated Sierra Flying Saturday January 7th - 9am

Kevin,
Sorry Scott and I had to drop out after "The Ranch". The mixture cable broke off the holding mount rendering it unusable and stuck in a partial lean position. We landed at Nervino and fixed it well enough to fly again. By the time we repaired it, the rest of you guys were done for the day. Well, we missed out on some good flying. But, we also had some great flying. Although we had headwinds up to 60 knots going up to TRK, going back over the hills we only had 35-40 knot tail winds. Maybe next time, no problems. Thanks a lot, again, for the fun. Good meeting some of the people again.
