Wonder if they explained what the cause of the crash was?
Almost looked like he got hit from behind in cruise flight by another airplane (which actually happened to a guy I know).

The dog looks very capable in the Brad Pitt trailer.

Pretty pumped when I saw two trailers with airplanes in a span of just a couple of weeks. Can confirm Madison Hallmark vibes, my wife forces me to sit through it and she cries at least once during every episode.

Seems Hollywood has noticed how hot the 185 is.

James and Josh Brolin were among the crowd one year here at Valdez. Just standing among everyone enjoying the show. I believe Bob Breeden had sold him a 185 earlier if I recall.

Well, we went to see The Dog Stars last night in a local theater. My expectations were tempered by all of the lukewarm to negative reviews I’d read, but I still had hopes for some decent airplane porn, and wasn’t disappointed.

It makes no sense to be fussy about deviations from reality in a post-viral apocalypse Sci-Fi story. At one point, there’s substantial hull damage following an emergency landing, not caused by the landing, but by . . . buffalo?! Nevertheless, there are few things that detract from the credibility of the flying scenes—like soaring a 185 with the prop stopped; bottomless fuel tanks; unexplained engine failure and repairs etc. etc.

On the upside, there was quite a bit of flying around mountains. In the great tradition of Spaghetti Westerns, all of the mountain footage was shot not in Colorado, where the story is supposedly set, but in Italy. Maybe that explains why they added the buffalo stampede (Sko Buffs!). At least the scenery was consistent, (unlike other movies such as “The River Wild,” with Kevin Bacon and Meryl Streep, which must have alternated over a half dozen very different rivers in different parts of the county.) The residents of Erie, just outside of Denver, would be thrilled to see their hamlet transported to a deep, green valley, surrounded by mountains, and Grand Junction would be so much grander if those incredible granite spires could be found anywhere near town.

I thought the acting was good, but what do I know? My wife thought it was a chick flick. I won’t repeat the criticisms of the plot and the pacing (which is slow). I liked the book better than the movie, but it’s nice to watch an airplane fly for more than a few seconds. If only they’d used a 182 like the book. Then he could have gotten in and out of that sketchy zombie Denver strip shorter, and been able to see over the nose while he was doing it.

We went to see it Wednesday evening. I liked it. So did Mrs Burns. Can definitely see the chick flic thought. Was it true to the book, pretty much, but not quite, including the ending. It's a movie, it's going to be embellished, inaccurate and unrealistic, but we were entertained. I enjoyed the book more, but am happy we went.

Enjoyed the book and now the movie. Came home (Erie Air Park KEIK) from the movie; looked around and damn if I could find those cool mtns close by.

Wow, that sure was a beater wagon. But better than no wagon for sure. Overall, enjoyed the movie more than expected given the reviews. Biggest distractor for me was the audio quality and the studio ADR. And I wish my airplane were as quiet inside as the one in the movie. Saw it on the budget night for $5 and I feel like I got at least that much entertainment from it. Read the book as well. Book > movie.

That's for sure. Mine's getting a new interior right now, and they're packing it with a lot of lightweight insulation. I still expect it to be brain damage at full throttle without ANR headsets. Maybe it'll be a little quieter in the back.

5 bucks is a good deal. I paid 20 for the two of us. I don't regret it. I expect I'll be rewatching it once it's streaming.

The good news is we paid $20 for the two of us. Bad news is that was the senior rate and he didn't even ask our age.....

My most recent disappointment was the first episode of The Madison. (Yeah, I know. But the promise of scenery and fishing sucked me in.) I was so excited when the brothers saddled up that sweet 185 and flew into the backcountry for a day on the river. But then the show’s writers really did us dirty with a combo of ridiculous circumstances and comically terrible decision making. After the airplane crash, the show implodes into a Hallmark stew of toxic femininity. Oh well. It was a good minute. Kind of like the beginning of The Edge.

Well, to disappoint you further, the crew damaged that 185 after the filming of it, which was done in a large hangar, using hydraulic lifts. Apparently they dropped the plane while lowering it. Don't know how much damage was done, but I'm guessing the owner was reimbursed richly. Those guys were throwing $$$ around here like drunk sailors.

It's bad enough to wreck the airplane in make believe in front of millions, but then to actually wreck it . . . That takes talent.

Funny! Same thing happened to us. Maybe it's the RFID chip they implanted in my head (and my wallet) when we signed up for Medicare/IRMAA.
