This will be a limitation of the plane, no matter how good a pilot you are.

An acquaintance has a Cherokee 260 and a C210. I'll try to talk him in to dumping his Centurion for a U206 so we can get some real numbers.......but, he does say that the fuel gauge goes down faster than the miles covered goes up in the Cherokee. If you can afford the extra fuel burn on your Cherokee I think you're better off from the get go. A brief look at prices on Trade-o-plane or Barnstormers indicates you'll save $30k or more for comparable times and equipment. The fuel burn cannot be that much worse.Zzz wrote:SA Maule wrote: it will go anywhere a high wing 182, 206 will go and out perform them in the process
Except over tall bushes and fence posts.

A 260 horse PA32-260 with STOL kit and speed mods,
And Art Matson's Juliette in the Denver-Oshkosh Air Race (standing start, flying finish). Juliette is 150 hp with both speed and STOL mods. With stock 50 gallon tanks, we did 903 statute miles non-stop against an average 3 kt headwind, averaging 130 mph airspeed, landing with an hour fuel reserve remaining. Most of the trip was at 14,600 feet, and we crossed the finish line at 500' AGL doing a little over 180 mph. Very low drag for a Cherokee, with good STOL performance.
Brush clearance is the only downside to the Cherokee STOL performance.

Great airplanes, but not the only downside, have a helluva time standing under one to keep the sun off or the rain also. Another good thing is they will stay put a lot better in the wind than anything with a high wing.

To be fair, your Wilga is about the only plane you probably DON'T have trouble standing under...
