Sorry this is so late in getting posted, been busy since the beginning of the month. Trip Aug 3-7
Cabin Creek - Found the strip to be in good condition, several other airplanes either there or coming and going while we were there. Fishing was good down on Big Creek, as we got several 12-14 in rainbows just spin casting. They were biting on anything we threw at them.
Wilson Bar - Again, in good condition, got the camping spot at the approach end of the runway. Good fishing there as well, although a river outfitter decided to camp with 22 people that afternoon in our preferred spot. So, we packed up to head up to Moose Creek and Shearer. Hotter than blazes that afternoon, so spent quite a bit of time in the river cooling off.
Shearer - Skipped this year
Moose Creek - Several fires in the area, smoke a little thick for my taste, flew over and continued to Fish Lake.
FIsh Lake - Dry and NO BUGS. Camped right on the lake. Good firewood found. Plenty of fish, albeit on the small side. Grass shorter than last year. There were two guys with mules who let the damn things graze all over the runway (sorry, I'm not a horse fan). Tore hell out of the middle of the runway, especially where there were already holes from other burrowing creatures. Anything with larger tires would have no problems, but I was concerned with my 500x5 and 600x6 setup. So when it came time to leave, my partner walked in front of the airplane as we back taxied for takeoff. Woke up to 29F with frost all over the airplane. 45 minutes after the sun came over the ridge line we were melted and ready to go. Takeoff and landing were uneventful with the animals there.
Overall it was a lot of fun. We met some really nice people, had our best year of fishing yet, and the airplane performed nicely, even if the manifold pressure gauge quit and the alternator stopped charging on the way home. It's annual time anyway.
