Plane down on way to Idaho backcountry

Just saw this story:

http://www.ksl.com/?sid=30378577&nid=148&title=search-underway-for-plane-missing-near-utah-colo-border&s_cid=queue-2

Looking like someone headed to the SC fly-in this weekend has gone missing.

Re: Plane down on way to Idaho backcountry

I talked to Garry from Durango the first of last week and he said that he was leaving for Idaho at the end of the week. I was in Utah last week and we were trying to hook up. I am hoping he is already there.

Re: Plane down on way to Idaho backcountry

I just checked Garry's spot and he is headed home. He is going south east and in 20 minutes he will be passing over Moab.

Thank God Gary's safe. Can only pray that they find the other plane and that all is ok.

Re: Plane down on way to Idaho backcountry

They were just talking about it on the radio. They said that two planes were flying together. Both according to KOA were lost from radar contact when they got into the mountains in UT, and then only one reappeared. It was a little vague, but it almost sounds like the one that reappeared had turned around and was headed back to Colorado.

Re: Plane down on way to Idaho backcountry

I find it very strange the 2 pilots were in radio contact before one went missing... I would think if one guy had a problem he would call the other guy on the radio and let him know what the issue was. I wonder what happened. Hopefully they find him and he's alright.

It sounds like they took the west side of the La Sal Mountains since Grand Junction lost them on radar. There are 2 private airstrips on that side and a highway.

Re: Plane down on way to Idaho backcountry

OK, I finally read the article in the initial post, and whether it said so initially, or was edited, the radio report makes sense now. How sad, I wonder how it happened? At least we don't have to wait to hear the pilots fate. My prayers will be with the pilot's family.

Terrible news. Miles was a great guy. We spent a lot of time hanging out together at Mack just a few weeks ago.

Tailwinds my friend.
