Anyone wanna have a camp out in Powers sometime in September? For those that were there for the one this spring, Tom the unofficial airport manger who really couldn't be any more generous(he insisted that I NOT pay him for the 5 gal of MoGas he gave me), cooked us some awesome bbq chicken, and made sure we had plenty of fun. Anyways Tom has been bugging me to get back down there, since he loves to play host, so I figured why not invite everyone!

And GTPC and I were talking about maybe spending the night before at Tokatee then the next night in Powers.

I am down. Air races 13-14 and Austin 27-28. So I will try to make it if it's one of the others

Justin, Austin is on the 27th.

Sounds like Tom will maybe be gone the last weekend of Sept, he said he'll let me know tomorrow if one of the weekends is best for him.

Tom says the 20th-21st would be best for him and since that's actually the end of summer I say we stick with that. So if your planning on coming, speak up because Tom would like a head count for the awesome BBQ he will cook.

In light of the recent scare regarding the closure of Mckenzie Bridge, what about Doing it there instead? Just a thought...

Yeah I'm sure that would be cool too, but there won't be anyone there cooking us an awesome BBQ dinner just because we showed up, or providing a fresh porta potty, supplying MoGas if needed etc.

I've flown into McKenzie Bridge many times, and love the strip, and am all for keeping it open but in my opinion there is no real good camp site there as its all mostly sloping, plus there would probably still be fire restrictions there due to it being on NF Land. Maybe we should do one there sometime in the fall or spring?

Amy and I will be there with bells on. If you haven't had the pleasure of Powers Tom's hospitality you MUST come.

Why not a true "backcountry" strip Powers is a true jewel!

And I think well try and do breakfast at Lucas Lodge on Sunday. Once we get a little better idea of how many people might show up someone will give Linda a call and let her know.

Tom wants to try and get a rough head count for the BBQ dinner. So if you think your going to come please speak up!

I would have loved to be there, but I'm racing in the Siskiyou Challenge that weekend. Have a great time!

Slim, slim chance. I may be in southern Oregon that weekend, not sure if it'll be by airplane or Toyota.

You mentioned Tom's hospitality.
I have known Tom for 30 years and have a few fun story's about him.
He makes his living climbing trees and blowing the tops out of the tree with dynamite to create a "natural" habitat for the Spotted Owls for the forest service.
(We live in an area where log trucks are considered to be Spotted Owl motorhomes.)
He races anything that has a motor and wheels and he will share it with you.
On two occasions I have shown up at the local race track and he said to me to get in his car and do the heat race for him and I did.
One day he showed up at my office with a Nissan GTR and threw the keys at me and told me to drive it.
He just recently got into flying ultralights.
He called me up a while back and asked what I thought about ultralights.
I knew he was a risk taker and I told him "don't you dare fly that thing with out instruction".
Later that day I found out he took off, flew the pattern and crashed, but walked away having never flown anything before.
You will have a hard time getting your credit card out before he does.

Awesome! Yeah I was going to wait till the end of the week to call Lindo so we could have a better idea of how many will be there

I really want to make it. But, at this point, it's probably only a 50/50 chance.

I hope to be able to make this event, I am flying from BC to Tahoe that weekend and need a place to break.
