If one has standard size bladders is it possible to install larger ones?

I still have Monarch's on. You can see em in the foreground. They are the way to go.

RE: bladder size... Unfortunately the only way to go to get more capacity if you have small tanks is go with Flint tip tanks, but that adds about 34lbs for just the tanks.

Is Hartwig not selling the Monarch extended tanks anymore?

I believe they still do... But I think Greg bought an early model 180. I dont think long range tanks were available until 62'.

Very informative, thanks Greg. We learned about the process but haven't actually replaced a bladder tank in A&P school.

Yes, mine is a '56. I'm not interested in flint tanks. Thanks for the article - very cool.

Greg you have one stunning wagon!

I am very glad I found this build thread. I had just inherited an almost original 61 C185, and you just gave me a bunch of ideas for when I get it flying again. Lets all hope that I can maintain such a detailed build thread when I get to it :D

Re: Project: 180 Skywagon - The On-Going Saga

I have recently installed Hartwig "slant tank" fuel cells in my 54 C-180.
Sure fit ok ... Also installed the vent L/H as per AD. The wings were off so all went well. The tail went on today ... it feels good :D

Why don't you call Hartwig and ask them? Seems to be the best source of information about their tanks would be from them.

At this point, my bladders are fine, so any interest in the plastic tanks is just academic.
Hartwig/Monarch's website doesn't give much info on the fuel cells, at least for the early 180's.
I do have a set of Monarch caps which I'll probably install this winter.

...and as usual, you can always count on Hotrod for a hijack and thread drift.

Bigrenna,

Can I get a long term pirep from you on how your EI CGR 30P is working? Did you get the version that replaces primary instruments in your panel? If so, which 5 did you choose?

I have been meaning on doing that for a bunch of stuff. I did the MVP-50 rather than the CGR. They share the same computer, but for me, the CGR just didn't do enough. If you have limited panel space, the CGR is a fantastic option, but if you are lucky enough to be starting with a fresh panel, I would go right to the MVP.

The long and short is the MVP was one of the single best items I installed in the Wagon. I personally like it way better than the JPI stuff and have zero regrets.

Do you have a picture posted in this thread of your completed panel? I've read it all, but I can't remember seeing it.

Re: Project: 180 Skywagon - The On-Going Saga

In all serious... It's probably easier to find pics on my blog. http://bushwagoneast.com. That has all the content found here but is a bit more organized. There should be a link in the sidebar for "panel."

Re: Project: 180 Skywagon - The On-Going Saga

Beautiful. I need (want) to add a fuel totalizer - that's my short term goal rather than take the plane out of commission and do the entire panel. So a $500 instrument quickly leads to $4k for the CGR to fit in an exisiting hole and replace an old and verrrry slow EI egt/cht and give me oil temp which I don't have - and pull out 5 gauges.. Going again to the MVP would bring me up to $5.5k and take out space I was hoping to devote to an airgizmo mount for an ipad mini (instead of your 796).

Looks great. This thread is fantastic. Except for my pocket book. But invaluable for 180 update planning.

There's a search field on each topic that constrains search to that particular thread, makes it a little easier.
